The Topdon Phoenix Max is a professional diagnostic tool, equipped with an MDCI Pro VCI that supports the protocols J2534, DoIP, CAN FD, and RP1210. The system runs on Android 9.0 and features a 13.3-inch touchscreen, an 8-core processor, 8 GB RAM, and 256 GB storage. Key functionalities include online ECU programming and coding, support for more than 40 service functions. A 2-year software license is included with purchase.

This system offers advanced diagnostic capabilities, such as topology mapping of the CAN bus system and access to Secure Gateway (SGW) modules. Functionality can be extended with modules for ADAS calibration, key programming (T-Ninja Box), battery testing (BTMobile ProS), and software for reading heavy commercial vehicles and electric vehicles.


Diagnostic functions:

The Phoenix Max performs in-depth diagnostics on all present vehicle systems. The VCI supports the protocols J2534, DoIP, CAN FD, D-PDU, and RP1210.

  • Read and clear fault codes: Reads and clears fault codes (DTCs) from all available electronic control modules.
  • Live data: Displays real-time data streams from sensors and components. Data can be shown in graphs, as text, or combined for analysis.
  • Actuator control: Performs bi-directional tests to directly control and check the functionality of components such as relays, injectors, and actuators.
  • OBFCM (On-Board Fuel Consumption Monitoring): Reads and records the vehicle's fuel and energy consumption. This data can be used for reporting to the RDW as part of the APK inspection.

Service and maintenance functions:

The device supports more than 40 service and maintenance functions. The available functions may vary by brand, model, and year.

Engine and drivetrain:

  • Oil service reset: Resets the service interval after an oil change.
  • Throttle body learning: Initializes the throttle actuators to the default values.
  • Injector coding: Writes the new injector code to the ECU after replacement.
  • Transmission learning: Performs an adaptive learning process for the automatic transmission to optimize shift quality.
  • Crankshaft sensor learning: Learns the tolerances of the crankshaft positions and stores them to correctly detect engine faults.
  • Clutch learning: Sets the engagement point of a (automated) clutch.
  • Cylinder balance check: Monitors the power contribution of each cylinder to identify irregularities.
  • Stop-start system configuration: Activates or deactivates the automatic engine stop-start function.
  • Mileage check: Reads the mileage from various modules to verify consistency.
  • Air-fuel ratio reset (A/F): Resets the adaptive values of the air-fuel ratio.
  • Turbo learning: Calibrates the turbo actuator after replacement or repair.
  • Engine angle calibration: Calibrates the rotor position sensor, applicable to electric and hybrid vehicles.

Exhaust systems:

  • Diesel particulate filter regeneration (DPF): Starts the forced regeneration of the DPF to remove blockages.
  • Gasoline particulate filter regeneration (GPF): Performs the regeneration procedure for the gasoline particulate filter.
  • AdBlue reset: Resets the urea level after refilling the AdBlue tank.
  • Exhaust gas recirculation learning (EGR): Relearns the EGR valve after cleaning or replacement.
  • NOx sensor reset: Resets the stored values of the NOx catalyst after replacement.

Brakes:

  • Brake reset: Functions for the electronic parking brake (EPB), such as opening and closing the brake calipers for maintenance.
  • ABS system bleeding: Performs an automated bleeding procedure for the ABS brake system.

Steering and Suspension:

  • Steering angle sensor initialization (SAS): Calibrates the steering angle sensor after alignment or replacement of steering components.
  • Air suspension calibration: Adjusts the vehicle's ride height and calibrates the level sensors.
  • Suspension reset: Calibrates the electronic suspension system after repairs.

Safety systems:

  • Reset airbag: Resets the airbag module and clears crash data after a repair.
  • Immobilizer (IMMO): Programs new keys or erases lost keys from the immobilizer memory.
  • Reset tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS): Resets the TPMS sensors after replacement or tire change.
  • Calibrate adaptive cruise control: Calibrates the radar sensor for the intelligent cruise control system.

  • Online ECU programming: Replaces the existing software or firmware in the Electronic Control Units (ECU) with the latest data from the manufacturer. Support for various brands, including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, and Audi.
  • Online ECU coding: Enables adjusting vehicle settings, configuring components, and activating hidden functions.

Cloud and reporting functions:

  • Generate diagnostic reports: Creates detailed reports of the diagnostic session, both before and after repair, which can be saved, printed, or shared.

  • Topology mapping: Provides a visual overview of the communication structure between the different ECUs in the vehicle, helping to quickly identify communication errors.
