The Topdon BTMobile ProS battery tester operates via conductance measurement to analyze the condition of 12V vehicle batteries. The battery tester has an operating voltage range of 8V to 16V and a measurement range of 100 to 2000 Cold Cranking Amps (CCA). The tester is calibrated for various battery technologies, including wet lead-acid batteries, AGM flat plate, AGM spiral, GEL, and EFB. The hardware connects directly to the battery terminals and performs diagnostic tests on batteries positioned both inside and outside the vehicle.

Measurements are processed and visualized through a connected mobile application via a Bluetooth 4.2 connection. The software includes specific modules for performing a starting capacity test, a charging system test, and a combined system diagnosis. The resulting dataset includes parameters such as state of charge (SOC), health status (SOH), internal resistance, and actual terminal voltage. An integrated protection circuit safeguards the instrument and vehicle against short circuit, overvoltage, and reverse polarity during the connection procedure.

  • Battery test: Calculates the health status (SOH), state of charge (SOC), internal resistance, and the actual capacity of the connected 12V battery.
  • Starting capacity test: Records the voltage drop and startup time during the combustion engine start to assess the condition of the starter motor.
  • Charging system test: Analyzes the alternator output voltage at no load and under load to verify the efficiency of the charging circuit.
  • System Test: Performs an automatic sequence analyzing the battery, starter motor, and alternator consecutively.

The hardware unit communicates with specific control software that provides extensive data management options to the diagnostic technician.

  • Automatic data logging: Saves test results chronologically in the application memory for reviewing historical measurement data per vehicle.
  • Integrated battery library: Contains a built-in reference database to view factory specifications of compatible batteries during parameter setting.

Good to know: Turn off all electrical consumers in the vehicle before starting the measurement. Parasitic current draw during a conductivity measurement affects the internal resistance calculation and leads to inaccurate results.
