The OBDSTAR M073 is the adapter cable for the 6-pin Indmar diagnostic port on inboard engines in motorboats. The cable connects that port to the 16-pin OBD2 (J1962) connector on your OBDSTAR diagnostic device and plugs directly into the factory diagnostic port of the engine on the vehicle side.
Indmar and Steyr engines do not use the OBD2 format for their diagnostic ports. Both manufacturers use the same 6-pin layout, so one cable type is all you need. The wiring carries the engine system communication protocols through to the OBD2 side without making any changes to your boat's existing wiring.
What this cable gives you is access to the inboard engine management system. Whether fault memory, live data, and other engine system functions are actually available depends on the software of your connected OBDSTAR diagnostic tool.
KEY BENEFITS
IMPORTANT NOTES
Applications and Features
Through the 6-pin diagnostic port, you access the engine management system of the inboard motor.
Control units you can reach
- Engine management system: the control unit of the Indmar or Steyr engine connected to the 6-pin diagnostic port.
- Other modules: whether additional units on board are accessible varies depending on the installation and device.
What you can do
- Read diagnostic trouble codes: access the engine management system's fault memory to display stored codes on the OBDSTAR device.
- Clear diagnostic trouble codes: remove stored fault codes after diagnosis and repair.
- Display live data: monitor real-time engine system parameters such as engine RPM, temperature, and sensor readings.
- Access engine system functions: establish a diagnostic connection with the engine management without modifying the wiring.
- Please note: which functions are actually available depends on the OBDSTAR device being used.
Compatible vehicles and applications
The determining factor is the 6-pin Indmar diagnostic port, not the engine model. The manufacturers listed below use this port on their inboard engines. OBDSTAR does not specify particular models with production years.
- Indmar: inboard engines (motorboat) with 6-pin OBD diagnostic port
- Steyr Motors: inboard engines (motorboat) with 6-pin OBD diagnostic port
