This adapter cable connects the round 10-pin diagnostic connector of BMW motorcycles to a diagnostic tool with a 16-pin OBD2 plug. The round connector is located under a cover, usually beneath the seat.

BMW used this round plug until around 2016. After that, Euro 4 models were fitted with a rectangular OBD2 connector. With the cable you can read fault codes and live data from engine management and ABS. The cable only converts the connector physically. The diagnostic tool itself must support the BMW Motorrad diagnostics.

POINTS TO NOTE

✕Your diagnostic tool must support BMW diagnostics via this round 10-pin connector; the cable does not convert protocols.

✕BMW motorcycles with a rectangular OBD2 connector, from around 2016, do not need this cable.
✕Which systems you can access varies by model, year of manufacture and diagnostic tool.

  • R 1200 GS and GS Adventure (LC): 2013 to 2016.
  • R 1200 RT (LC): 2014 to 2016.
  • K 1600 GT and GTL: 2011 to 2016.
  • S 1000 RR: 2009 to 2016.

Good to know: The round 10-pin connector is located under a cover, usually beneath the seat. If you find a rectangular 16-pin connector there, connect your diagnostic tool directly.
