The Adapter Cable is designed to establish a connection between older Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and modern diagnostic equipment. The cable features a specific 38-pin OBD1 male connector on the vehicle side and a standardized 16-pin J1962 (OBD2) female connector on the adapter side. This makes it possible to read vehicles equipped with the older 38-pin diagnostic port using a common OBD2 reader.
