The OBDSTAR M086 is an adapter cable for the 6-pin diagnostic port on Volvo Penta petrol engines. The cable converts that factory port to a standard 16-pin OBD2 (J1962) connector and connects directly to the engine's diagnostic port on the motor side.
Volvo Penta does not implement the diagnostic port on these engines in OBD2 format, which means a standard OBD2 cable will not fit. Depending on the engine control system, communication runs over CAN-bus or K-line—the cable provides the physical and electrical connection for that traffic. The cable establishes the link to the engine management system. Which fault codes and other diagnostic functions are then available depends on your OBDSTAR device's software support for the specific engine system.
