This adapter cable connects the 12-pin and 8-pin connectors of the Security Gateway Module (SGW) in FCA group vehicles to a scan tool with a 16-pin OBD2 connector. You disconnect the two connectors from the SGW and connect them to the cable. The SGW is usually located under or behind the dashboard, near the steering column, behind the glovebox or behind the radio.
From approximately model year 2018, the SGW only permits reading data via the OBD2 port. Clearing fault codes, actuator tests, calibrations and resets are blocked. With this cable, the scan tool communicates directly with the vehicle's CAN network. The cable physically converts the connection; the scan tool itself must support FCA diagnostics.

POINTS TO NOTE
✕Your scan tool must support brand-specific FCA diagnostics; the cable does not convert protocols.
✕A simple EOBD code reader has no use for this cable; it only reads emissions-related OBD2 data.
✕Not suitable for models where the SGW is integrated into the BCM, and not for the Alfa Romeo Tonale and the Jeep Grand Cherokee (WL).
✕On models including Giulia, Stelvio, 500X, Renegade and Compass, part of the diagnostics runs via a second CAN bus; check whether your scan tool can reach it through this cable.

💡
Good to know: On most FCA models the SGW is located under or behind the dashboard, often on the driver's side near the steering column. On some models it is behind the glovebox or the radio. The connectors only fit one way, so reversing them is not possible.
