The FCA 12+8-pin “Secure Gateway Bypass” adapter cable is an essential diagnostic adapter for working on virtually all modern vehicles from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), now part of Stellantis. From around 2018, many FCA models are equipped with a Secure Gateway Module (SGW): a digital firewall that only allows limited readout functionality via the standard OBD2 port.
This adapter is specially designed to bypass this SGW restriction. Instead of connecting via the OBD2 port, the adapter connects to the 12-pin and 8-pin connectors of the SGW module itself. This allows full bidirectional access to all vehicle sensors, actuators, and control units, as required for professional maintenance and programming.
Application and functionality:
The primary function of this cable is to bypass the Secure Gateway Module (SGW), enabling advanced diagnostic applications again. Once connected to the SGW module (usually behind the dashboard, glove compartment, or infotainment system), the following functions can be performed with a 16-pin OBD2 scanner:
- Clearing fault codes (DTCs): Resetting error messages from all systems
- Actuator tests: Activating and deactivating components such as injectors and relays
- Codings & adaptations: Reprogramming keys, proxy alignments, vehicle settings
- Service resets: Resetting maintenance intervals and oil changes
