The OBDSTAR M063 is a universal 6-pin OBD to 16-pin OBD2 adapter cable specially developed for diagnosis and programming of combustion engines in marine and industrial applications. The cable features a 6-pin OBD connector (female) on one side and a standard 16-pin J1962 OBD2 connector (male) on the other, enabling connection of engine control systems with a non-standard diagnostic connector to OBDSTAR diagnostic hardware. The cable is suitable for engine brands such as PCM/Crusader Engines, Ilmor, Indmar, Kodiak Marine, Marine Power, MerCruiser, Panther Airboats, Seven Marine, and Volvo Penta.

The M063 adapter cable physically converts the 6-pin engine signal to the OBD2 port layout, allowing OBDSTAR readers or programmers to read and process the existing diagnostic communication of the engine management system. The cable adapts the pin pattern without signal conversion or active electronics — the connection is passive and routes the relevant communication lines such as K-line or CAN to the corresponding pins in the OBD2 connector. This enables reading fault codes, monitoring engine parameters, and performing programming actions via the OBDSTAR interface if supported.

Applications and functionalities

The M063 Adapter Cable supports the following diagnostic functions via OBDSTAR equipment on compatible internal combustion engines.

  • Reading and clearing fault codes: Error codes stored in the engine management system (ECU) are read via the 6-pin connection and can be cleared after diagnosis.
  • Live data management: Engine parameters such as RPM, water temperature, and fuel pressure are read in real time via the diagnostic connection.
  • ECU programming: Where supported by the OBDSTAR device, the cable can be used for reprogramming or initializing the engine control unit.
  • Adaptation from 6-pin to OBD2 pinout: The cable routes the communication lines from the 6-pin engine connector to the corresponding pin positions of the 16-pin J1962 OBD2 connector.
