The Launch X-431 Key Programmer is an accessory for key programming and transponder handling that connects to compatible Launch X-431 diagnostic equipment. The device is used for creating, cloning, and programming car keys and remotes, supporting simulation of various immobilizer transponders including 8A, 4D, 4A, 46, 47, 48, 49, MQB48, and MQB49. In addition to these types, chips from the 11, 12, 13, 7936, 7937, 7946, and 7947 series are also supported, making the accessory applicable to a wide range of vehicle systems.
During use, the Key Programmer is connected to the diagnostic device via the supplied cable, while the key or remote to be programmed is placed in the unit’s slot. Communication occurs through the X-431 platform, with the software controlling which transponder is simulated or written. The included LE3, LE4, LN3, and LS4 remotes are reprogrammable and can be used as universal remote controls, while the Super Chip serves as a cloneable transponder for copying existing key profiles.

Applications and functionalities
The X-431 Key Programmer supports the following key and transponder operations:
- Transponder simulation 8A/4D/4A/46/47/48/49/MQB48/MQB49: The accessory emulates these immobilizer chips, allowing keys for various vehicle platforms to be created without needing a separate blank transponder for each chip type.
- Transponder simulation 11/12/13/7936/7937/7946/7947: Support for older and widely used Philips/NXP chip types for application across a broad range of models.
- Smart key replacement: Programming replacement smart keys when the original key is lost or damaged, in combination with the immobilizer function of the diagnostic device.
- Reprogramming of remote controls: The LE3, LE4, LN3, and LS4 remotes can be rewritten multiple times and adapted to the target vehicle.
- Cloneable Super Chip: A rewritable transponder that allows existing key profiles to be copied to a new carrier.
- Proxy key reprogramming: Existing proxy keys can be reconfigured instead of replaced, limiting the number of blank keys needed.
Special functions and capabilities
Distinctive features compared to standalone transponder programmers:
- Wireless key programming: Communication with the key to be programmed occurs without physical chip contacts, so placing loose blank transponders in the unit suffices.
- Type-C connection with USB Adapter: Standard Type-C connector on the unit, with included Type-C to USB-A Adapter for connection to X-431 tablets with USB port.
- Integrated key holder: The recess in the housing positions the key correctly relative to the reading coil, making separate antenna placement unnecessary.
