The OBDSTAR CAN FD Adapter is the interface that enables your OBDSTAR tablet to communicate with vehicles using the CAN FD protocol. You insert it into the vehicle's OBD2 port and connect the tablet on the other end; without this adapter, communication with CAN FD vehicles will not be established.
CAN FD is the faster successor to the classic CAN bus and is used in vehicles from GM and Hyundai and Kia, among others. Four LED indicators on the housing — POWER, CANFD1, CANFD2 and SYSTEM — show whether power is present and whether there is traffic on the bus. The adapter does not need to be paired to a single device and can therefore serve multiple devices simultaneously.

Applications and functionality
The adapter sits between the vehicle's OBD2 port and your OBDSTAR tablet. The tablet performs the diagnostics; the adapter translates to CAN FD.

What you need
The adapter does not work independently.Below is what you need.
- An OBDSTAR tablet:The device that performs the diagnostics. OBDSTAR is the tablet series name, which includes the Key Master DP Plus.
- A vehicle with CAN FD:The adapter has no function on vehicles using the classic CAN protocol.
- A working OBD2 port:The adapter draws its power from the vehicle; if the POWER LED does not illuminate, there is no power supply.
OBDSTAR provides brand coverage for GM and Hyundai and Kia. Before purchasing, verify that the vehicle you are working on actually communicates via CAN FD.
