The Topdon CarPal is a compact OBD2 fault code reader in dongle form, connecting via Bluetooth 5.0 to a smartphone or tablet (Android 7.0+ and iOS 11.0+). This device is designed to perform complete system diagnostics, including reading and clearing fault codes and viewing live data. The licence includes 1 year of free updates.

The CarPal offers additional features such as a battery test to check the condition of the vehicle battery. The accompanying application also provides access to a library of Technical Service Bulletins (TSB), a DLC location finder and an overview of warning lights, offering support in identifying and resolving issues.

Diagnostic functions:

The CarPal supports diagnostic functions for all available vehicle systems.

• Battery test: Checks the voltage and status of the vehicle battery.
• Read and clear fault codes: Reads and clears fault codes (DTCs) from all present electronic control units, such as the engine, transmission, ABS and airbags.
• Live data: Displays real-time data from sensors and components. The data can be shown in various formats, including as a graph or in a combined display (4-in-1).

Service and maintenance functions:

This device supports more than 5 service functions for basic maintenance. The available functions may vary depending on the make and model of the vehicle.

Engine and drivetrain:

• Throttle valve relearning: Resets the throttle valve actuator to accurately regulate throttle valve values after cleaning or replacement.

Brakes:

• Electronic parking brake initialisation (EPB): Resets the electronic parking brake after replacement of brake pads or the engine.

Exhaust systems:

• Diesel particulate filter regeneration (DPF): Initiates the regeneration process of the diesel particulate filter to remove blockages.

Tyres:

• Tyre pressure monitoring system initialisation (TPMS): Relearns sensors after replacement or tyre change.

Battery:

• Battery management system reset (BMS): Registers a new battery in the system after replacement.

Other functions:

• Oil and service interval reset: Resets the service light and resets the maintenance interval after an oil change.

In addition to diagnostics, the CarPal provides access to technical information and tools.

• DLC location finder: Provides a visual guide to locate the vehicle's Data Link Connector (DLC).
