The Tesla 20-pin to 16-pin adapter cable is a specialized diagnostic adapter designed for reading vehicle data on early Tesla Model 3 vehicles and certain model years of the Model S and Model X. These models feature a Tesla-specific 20-pin connector instead of a standard OBD2 port.
This adapter cable acts as a pass-through CAN-bus bridge, allowing an OBD2 scanner or dongle (such as the OBDLink MX+) to access data streams from systems like battery, powertrain, HVAC, and chassis. Combined with software like Scan My Tesla, it offers extensive real-time analysis functions, far beyond standard OBD2 diagnostics.

With this adapter, users can read live data and parameters from essential subsystems. Capabilities include:

Note: for Model 3’s from January 2019 onwards, a 26-pin adapter is required. Port location may vary by model.
