The OBDSTAR M088 is an Adapter Cable that converts the brand-specific 6-pin Tohatsu diagnostic connector to a standard 16-pin OBD2 connection (J1962). The cable is intended for use with OBDSTAR diagnostic devices or programmers and is specifically designed for diagnostic applications on Tohatsu outboard motors in the motorboat sector. The cable provides a physical and electrical connection between the non-standard factory port of the engine and the OBD2 interface of the diagnostic device.
The 6-pin connector on the engine side connects to the Tohatsu-specific diagnostic port, which is usually present on electronically controlled outboard motors. Through the cable, the relevant diagnostic lines — including the K-line or CAN bus depending on the engine type — are passed to the 16-pin OBD2 side, allowing the OBDSTAR device to establish communication with the engine control unit (ECU). This makes it possible to read fault codes, request live data, and perform other diagnostic tasks via the familiar OBD2 interface of the diagnostic device.

The M088 Adapter Cable enables the following diagnostic functions on Tohatsu outboard motors via compatible OBDSTAR equipment:
- Reading fault codes (DTCs): The cable gives the OBDSTAR device access to the engine control unit (ECU), allowing stored and active fault codes to be read and cleared.
- Live data display: During operation of the outboard motor, real-time measurements such as engine speed, coolant temperature, and fuel pressure can be requested via the diagnostic device.
- ECU communication via K-line or CAN: The Adapter Cable passes the engine’s diagnostic bus to the OBD2 connector, allowing the device to automatically select the correct communication protocol based on the engine type.
- Connection conversion Tohatsu to OBD2: The cable converts the 6-pin brand-specific connector of Tohatsu to the standard 16-pin J1962 interface, making the engine’s diagnostic port accessible to the OBDSTAR system.
