The OBDSTAR M009 is an adapter cable that converts a Kawasaki 4-pin OBD connection to a standard 16-pin OBD2 (J1962) connector. The cable is intended for use in motorcycle diagnostics on Kawasaki models equipped with a factory-specific 4-pin diagnostic port. This adapter cable allows the OBDSTAR diagnostic programmer to be connected to vehicles without a standard OBD2 port.

The cable translates the pin layout of the Kawasaki 4-pin port to the 16-pin OBD2 format recognized by OBDSTAR equipment. The signal lines, including the K-line communication line used by many Kawasaki motorcycles for serial data exchange, are routed through the correct pin positions to the OBD2 connector. This allows the connected OBDSTAR programmer to communicate with the motorcycle’s engine control unit (ECU) for diagnostic and programming tasks.

ADVANTAGES

Enables direct connection between OBDSTAR equipment and the factory-specific 4-pin Kawasaki diagnostic port without intermediate modifications.
The K-line signal lines are correctly routed to the corresponding pins of the OBD2 J1962 connector.
Compact cable length makes the adapter cable suitable for use in the limited space around the diagnostic port area on motorcycles.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Only compatible with OBDSTAR readers or programmers; use with other diagnostic brand equipment is not supported.
Not suitable for Kawasaki models equipped with a standard 16-pin OBD2 port or any other factory-specific connector than the 4-pin version.
Available diagnostic functions depend on the capabilities of the connected OBDSTAR device and the ECU software of the specific Kawasaki model.

Applications and functionalities

The M009 Adapter Cable enables the following diagnostic tasks via OBDSTAR equipment on Kawasaki motorcycles with a 4-pins OBD port:

  • Read fault codes: Stored and active fault codes are read from the motorcycle’s ECU via the K-line connection, including data about the affected system.
  • Clear fault codes: After diagnosis and repair, stored fault codes can be erased from the memory of the engine control unit.
  • Display live data: Real-time sensor values, such as engine speed, temperature, and throttle position, are transmitted through the diagnostic cable to the reading device.
  • ECU identification: The OBDSTAR device can query the software version and identification data of the engine management unit via the Adapter Cable.
