The OBDSTAR M048 is the adapter cable for the 8+8-pin diagnostic port found on Aprilia and Moto Guzzi motorcycles. The cable features a Y-split with two 8-pin connectors on the vehicle side, terminating in a standard 16-pin OBD2 (J1962) connector for your OBDSTAR diagnostic device.

The connector layout on this motorcycle platform is non-standardised: both 8-pin connectors must be used together to fully access the diagnostic port. The pins are internally mapped to the correct positions on the OBD2 plug, ensuring proper transmission of the K-line and power supply lines. The connector housings comply with the factory specifications of both manufacturers. Once connected, the device communicates with the motorcycle's ECU. What you can subsequently do — read data, clear codes or reprogram — depends on your own device's software.

KEY FEATURES

Y-split with two 8-pin connectors — Together they cover the vehicle-specific connector pattern of Aprilia and Moto Guzzi in a single cable.
Direct conversion to OBD2 — Connect to OBDSTAR diagnostic equipment without additional adapters.
K-line and power correctly routed — Internal wiring follows factory specifications for signal and power lines.
Two brands, one cable — Both Aprilia and Moto Guzzi models with this port are supported by the same cable.

LIMITATIONS

8+8-pin configuration only — Moto Guzzi models equipped with a 5+5-pin diagnostic connector are not supported; a different cable is required for those vehicles.
Both connectors are included — The port is only fully operational when both 8-pin connectors are connected.
OBDSTAR equipment only — The cable cannot be used outside the OBDSTAR platform.
Does not add vehicle coverage — Which diagnostic and programming functions are available depends on your own device.

Applications and functionality

Via this connection you can access the engine control unit of the Aprilia or Moto Guzzi.

Control units you can reach

  • Engine control unit (ECU): The control module communicating via the K-line connection.
  • Other systems: Whether additional modules are accessible alongside the ECU varies by model and device.

What you can do

  • Read fault codes: Read stored diagnostic trouble codes from the motorcycle's ECU.
  • Clear fault codes: Clear stored codes after diagnosis without needing to swap cables.
  • Display live data: Monitor sensor readings and system parameters in real time via the K-line connection.
  • Programming and coding: Perform programming and coding tasks supported by compatible OBDSTAR programmers on this platform.
  • Note: The available function set varies by model and OBDSTAR device.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The 8+8-pin diagnostic port is the determining factor, not the model. The brands and models listed below are equipped with this port. Only vehicles with this connector are supported.

Aprilia:

  • Dorsoduro: (2008–present)
  • Mana 850: (2007–present)
  • RSV4: (2009–present)
  • Shiver 750: (2007–present)
  • Tuono V4: (2011–present)

Moto Guzzi:

💡
Useful to know: The diagnostic port on Aprilia and Moto Guzzi motorcycles is typically located beneath the seat or behind a cover panel; consult the model's service manual for the exact location. Before ordering, verify that your motorcycle features the 8+8-pin configuration and not the 5+5-pin connector.
