The Jaltest JT2004 is a compact digital clamp meter from Cojali's Jaltest Tools range. The instrument measures both DC and AC current without contact, so you don't need to break the circuit to take a reading. This feature makes the clamp meter ideal for diagnosing starter motors, alternators and wiring harnesses on commercial vehicles, where disconnecting a battery cable isn't an option.
Beyond current measurement, the JT2004 functions as a full-featured multimeter: DC and AC voltage, resistance, capacitance, frequency, diode test, continuity and temperature. The device also detects AC voltage and electromagnetic fields without contact. The circuitry uses a sigma-delta analog-to-digital converter with overload protection across the entire measurement range, and the instrument meets safety categories CAT II 600V and CAT III 300V with double insulation.

Application and functionality
The JT2004 combines non-contact current measurement with the features of a complete digital multimeter.
- Non-contact current measurement: Measure AC and DC current by clamping around the conductor without interrupting the circuit or disconnecting terminals.
- Parasitic drain detection: Measure a vehicle's standby power consumption to identify which circuit is draining the battery between trips.
- Charging current verification: Measure the current supplied by the alternator while the engine is running, without disconnecting the battery cable.
- Starter current assessment: Captures high current draw during engine start for diagnostics of the starter motor and battery cables.
- Voltage measurement: Measure both DC and AC voltage on batteries, power supplies and sensors.
- Resistance, capacitance and frequency: For testing wiring, capacitors and pulsating signals.
- Diode and continuity test: Checks semiconductors and detects breaks in cables and switches.
- Temperature measurement: Using the included temperature probe, useful for locating overheating components.
- Non-contact voltage detection: Detects the presence of AC voltage and electromagnetic fields without touching the conductor.
