The Autel MaxiSys Ultra S2 update licence extends your right to software updates for the MaxiSys Ultra S2 by one year. What the device can do is determined by the software and not by the hardware. The Ultra S2 is the top model: a 13.7-inch tablet running Android 13 with an octa-core processor, 12 GB of working memory and 512 GB of storage, which works via the MaxiFlash VCMI2, an interface with a built-in four-channel oscilloscope and multimeter.

The licence is tied to the serial number of your MaxiSys Ultra S2, not to an account or a code. We activate it within one working day based on the serial number of your device. An extension keeps the vehicle coverage, the programming files and the just over 48 maintenance functions up to date. If the term expires, nothing changes to what is already on the device, but new software will no longer be added.

POINTS TO NOTE

✕One licence applies per serial number, so a second Ultra S2 in the same workshop needs its own extension.
✕An extension provides software and not hardware; the oscilloscope and the multimeter are in the VCMI2 and a licence changes nothing there.
✕ADAS calibration requires an Autel calibration system; that is separate equipment and is not included in this licence.
✕Downloading requires a stable Wi-Fi connection; on a busy guest network, a large update may take a long time.

Applications and functionality

Three things on the MaxiSys Ultra S2 are tied to the licence. The vehicle coverage determines which vehicles the device recognises, the function files determine what it may do with them, and the online services provide what comes in from outside.

What an extension gives you

  • New vehicle coverage: Brands, models and model years added since your last update become available within the existing diagnostic functions.
  • Programming files: The files behind J2534 programming are supplemented for newer control units.
  • Service functions: New and corrected service and reset procedures are added through the same updates.
  • Corrections and improvements: Error fixes and faster routines within the software itself are added through the same updates.

What happens without an extension

  • No additions: New coverage and new procedures will no longer be added to the device.
  • Online functions: Anything that runs via the manufacturer's servers may be limited or no longer available after expiry.
  • No loss of functionality: What you do with the device today, you can still do after the licence expires.

How does it work in practice?

The process runs in four steps. Allow for some download time if you have not updated in a year.

  1. Serial number: We need the serial number of the MaxiSys Ultra S2 to link the licence; it is shown in the settings menu under the device details and on the sticker on the back.
  2. Registration with the manufacturer: We register your serial number for the new period, usually within one working day.
  3. Preparing the device: Connect the device to the charger and ensure a stable Wi-Fi connection before starting the download.
  4. Updating the software: Select the available versions in the update menu and start the update.
