Which model is right for you

OBDSTAR manufactures several key and programming devices. They don't differ in quality but in scope: where one device ends, the next begins.

If you're not looking for key work but ECU work or crash data, consider the DC706 (ECU programmer) or the P50 (crash data programmer) instead. They handle different tasks.

Applications and functionality

The KeyMaster G3 is built around immobiliser and key work, with ECU operations as its second pillar. Below, the work is grouped as it comes to your workshop.

Key functions — immobiliser, 5 vehicle types

This device's primary function, and the part available without additional licence. Which approach is possible for each vehicle depends on make, model and year.

• Programming keys: Teaching immobiliser keys on cars (102 brands), trucks (DAF, Jiefang and Kinland), electric vehicles (23 brands), motorcycles (19 brands) and marine vessels (BRP, Kawasaki and Yamaha).
• Making keys: Creating a new key that starts the vehicle, even when no original is available, at the level a brand dealer operates. For 17 brands.
• Refreshing keys: Resetting a used key so it can be deployed again, for 15 brands.
• Unlocking smart keys: Making a locked smart key usable again, for Subaru and Toyota.
• Reading and writing transponders: Accessing transponder data via the built-in RFID function, without a separate adapter.
• Testing remote controls: Checking signal, function and frequency of remotes and smart keys with the built-in Remote Test before programming.
• IMMO OFF: Disabling engine immobiliser on models where the vehicle system allows it.

Specialist functions — control module work

Work that goes beyond keys alone. Some of this happens on the bench with the included MP001 and bench wiring.

• Reading and writing EEPROM and MCU: Extracting, saving and restoring control module memory with the included MP001 programmer, the read and write boards C4-01 and C4-02 and the cables W004 and W005.
• ECU Advanced: Advanced operations on control modules from 12 brands that have been enabled for this.
• Bench work: Accessing modules outside the vehicle via BENCH-A V3, BENCH-B V2 and the P004 adapter with switchable 120 ohm termination resistor.

Functions requiring a separate licence

Four feature modules are not included in the base package. OBDSTAR supplies them as paid activation on your device's serial number — you pay only for what you use. All four are available separately from us; they're listed below under optional add-ons.

• ODO Meter — module B: Adjusting odometer reading on cars and motorcycles, plus oil and service resets.
• ECU Flasher — module C: Reading, writing and cloning engine management, transmission, body control modules and motorcycle ECM. This is the module the two large ECU Flasher lists below belong to.
• Crash Reset — module D: Airbag reset, battery management module (MVBM) reset and steering angle sensor relearning.
• Test Platform — module E: Start instrument clusters, ABS units, gear shift modules, air-conditioning panels and BSG, MHEV, audio and EBA controllers for electric vehicles on the workbench, without CAN communication.

If you only need odometer work, the ODO Meter module alone is sufficient; for collision damage repairs, Crash Reset is the logical addition.

Additional features

Limited by the device's technical capabilities. This determines whether it can communicate with recent vehicles; the manufacturer list below tells you nothing about this. The G3 integrates everything within the device itself, without separate external boxes.

• CAN-FD built-in: The faster CAN protocol for recent vehicles, no separate adapter required.
• DoIP built-in: Diagnostics over Ethernet, essential for an expanding range of modern models.
• Low speed (fault tolerant) CAN: The slower, fault-tolerant bus used in comfort systems.
• OBD16 pinout switch: Reconfigure the OBD connector pinout without an adapter cable.

The combination of manufacturer, model and year matters, not the manufacturer alone. A manufacturer listed for immobiliser work may not appear in the key programming list — check the specific function you need. Below are the eight major lists, organised by region and alphabetically. Optional additions and expansions

Note what is already included: the MP001 programmer, the P004 adapter and the KeySim are included in the A1+A2 version we supply. You do not need to order these separately. You also do not need the CAN FD Adapter here — CAN-FD is built in. And the P001 Programmer adds nothing: OBDSTAR confirms that the G3 already has the RFID function on board and is supplied with the MP001.
