The OBDSTAR M040 is an adapter cable that converts a 10-pin BMW motorcycle connector to a 16-pin OBD2 connection (J1962). The cable is designed for use with OBDSTAR readers or programmers and enables diagnostics on BMW motorcycles equipped with a round 10-pin diagnostic port. The vehicle-side connector has a cylindrical housing with ten pins, characteristic of older and certain current BMW motorcycle models. The cable has a fixed, short length with a standard OBD2 female connector at the end for connection to the diagnostic device.
The adapter cable physically converts the 10-pin BMW motorcycle protocol to the 16-pin OBD2 pinout, allowing the connected OBDSTAR device to establish vehicle communication via K-line or CAN-bus, depending on the motorcycle model and year. The signal lines are directly passed through within the connector without active electronics; the cable acts as a passive pin signal translator. During use, the 10-pin plug is inserted into the motorcycle’s diagnostic port, after which the OBDSTAR device initiates communication via the OBD2 side with the engine control unit (ECU) or other onboard electronic systems.
