The Autool PT620 is a digital oil pressure gauge with a measurement range of 0 to 29.4 bar. The PT620 measures engine oil pressure at the oil pressure sensor location. This resolves the question left open by the oil pressure warning light: is the pressure genuinely too low, or is it a faulty sensor or wiring? With eighteen adapter types, the adapter set is the largest in the range, because each manufacturer uses its own thread.

The device reads digitally and holds the highest and lowest values during measurement, along with the difference between them and the elapsed measurement time. Connection is made using the supplied adapters: eighteen adapter types. The largest set in the range, made of riveted copper; the dimensions are not listed in the manual. It runs on four AAA batteries and is usable from −10 to +60 °C.

Application and functionality

A pressure gauge tells you whether a system achieves the pressure it should. That is the difference between suspicion and measurement – and it saves replacing components that are working perfectly.

Where to connect it

  • At the oil pressure sensor location: You unscrew the sensor and screw the matching adapter in its place.

What you see on the display

  • Live reading: The pressure at that moment.
  • Highest and lowest values: Pmax and Pmin are held throughout the measurement.
  • Difference between them: ΔP, the difference between the highest and lowest value.
  • Measurement time: How long the measurement has been running.
  • Eighteen adapters: The largest set in the range, for the various threads on oil pressure sensors.

How to perform the measurement

The sequence determines whether the measurement is worthwhile. This is the procedure Autool prescribes in the manual.

  1. Bring the engine to operating temperature: Cold oil is thicker and produces a higher pressure reading than the engine actually has.
  2. Remove the oil pressure sensor: Catch the oil that drains out and screw the matching adapter into place.
  3. Connect the gauge and set the zero point: Attach the hose before starting.
  4. Run the engine at idle and take the reading: Check the pressure and compare it with the manufacturer's specification; Pmax and Pmin will be recorded.

Which pressure gauge you need

Autool offers seven pressure gauges that look similar from the outside but have a different sensor and different adapter set. The difference lies in which system you measure and how high the pressure reaches there. You are currently viewing the PT620.

Good to know: Record the measured value together with the conditions: Engine temperature, engine speed and which adapter you used. A pressure reading without that context cannot be compared in a follow-up measurement three months later, and it is often the trend that reveals more than a single reading.
