The Autool PT520 is a digital air pressure tester with a measurement range of −100 to +200 kPa. The PT520 measures positive and negative pressure and features two input ports for this: IN1 for positive pressure and IN2 for negative pressure. You can connect both simultaneously and have it calculate the difference between the two – ideal when you want to see pressure drop across a component rather than a standalone reading.

The unit displays digitally and records the highest and lowest values during measurement, along with the difference between them and measurement duration. Connection is made using the supplied adapters: seven adapter types. It runs on four AAA batteries and operates from −10 to +60 °C.

POINTS TO NOTE

✕Do not use above 200 kPa. The manual explicitly states this as the upper limit for measurement pressure.
✕For non-aggressive media only: Air, water, natural gas and non-corrosive oil. Not suitable for caustic substances.
✕The adapters are universal, not brand-specific. Which you need depends on the vehicle; if unsure, please provide the make, model and year.
✕Powered by four AAA batteries. These are user-replaceable, but note that the tester automatically switches off after ten minutes.

Application and functionality

A pressure tester tells you whether a system achieves the pressure it should. That's the difference between guesswork and measurement – and it saves replacing components that are working perfectly.

Where to connect it

  • Inlet manifold: The negative pressure the engine builds, as an initial indicator of running problems.
  • Brake booster: Whether the booster maintains the negative pressure it should hold.
  • Crankcase pressure: Whether the crankcase develops positive pressure, for example from blow-by past the piston rings.
  • Exhaust outlet: The back pressure in the exhaust system.

What you see on the display

  • Two inputs simultaneously: IN1 for positive pressure, IN2 for negative pressure, with the difference between them.
  • Ten units: From kPa and hPa to bar, psi and mmHg, each with its own range.
  • Store twenty-nine readings: So you can compare without writing notes every time.
  • Hold value: Freeze the measurement to read it or record it.
  • Zero adjustment: Set the tester to P=0 before you start.
  • Torch: Double-click to switch on the light for working under the bonnet.

Which pressure tester you need

Autool supplies seven pressure testers that look identical externally but have different sensors and different adapter sets. The difference lies in which system you're measuring and how high the pressure runs there. You're currently viewing the PT520.

Good to know: Record the measured value together with the conditions: engine temperature, engine speed and which adapter you used. A pressure reading without that context cannot be compared reliably when repeated three months later, and it is often the trend that reveals more than the individual measurement.
