The Autool PT530 is a digital air pressure tester with a measurement range of −100 to +300 kPa. The PT530 measures positive and negative pressure via two inputs: IN1 for positive pressure and IN2 for negative pressure, including the difference between them. Whilst the entry-level model maxes out at 200 kPa, this one reaches 300 kPa, and it measures with greater precision.

The unit reads digitally and records the highest and lowest values during measurement, plus the difference between them and the elapsed time. Connection is made using the supplied adapters: seven adapter types. Outer diameters from 4 to 12 mm, plus individual sizes of 6, 8, 9, 16 and 20 mm and a step-up adapter from 8 to 20 mm. It runs on four AAA batteries and is usable from −10 to +60 °C.

POINTS TO NOTE

✕Do not use above 300 kPa. The manual explicitly states this as the upper limit for measuring pressure.

✕For non-aggressive media only: Air, water, natural gas and non-corrosive oil.

✕The adapters are universal, not brand-specific. Which ones you need depends on the vehicle; if in doubt, provide the make, model and year.

✕Runs on four AAA batteries. These can be replaced separately, but note that the tester will switch itself off after a period of time.

Application and functionality

A pressure gauge tells you whether a system achieves the pressure it should. That's the difference between guesswork and actual measurement – and it saves replacing components that are perfectly fine.

Where to connect it

Intake manifold: The negative pressure the engine builds, as an initial indicator of a running problem.
Brake booster: Whether the booster maintains the negative pressure it should hold.
Crankcase pressure: Whether the crankcase builds positive pressure, for example from blow-by past the piston rings.
Exhaust side: The back pressure in the exhaust system.

Which pressure gauge you need

💡

Good to know: Record the measured value together with the conditions: Engine temperature, engine speed and which adapter you used. A pressure reading without that context cannot be compared in a follow-up measurement after three months, and it is often the trend that tells you more than a single reading.
