The Topdon TopScan Master is a compact Bluetooth VCI that turns your smartphone into a diagnostic scanner. You plug it into the OBD port and work through the Topdon app. You can carry out full system diagnostics with fault codes, live data and bidirectional tests, and you have 30 service functions. Topdon cites more than 120 brands.

It is the most comprehensive version of the TopScan range, with CAN FD and DoIP for newer cars. With AutoVIN, the app identifies the car. TopFix AI explains fault codes and links them to repair guides and wiring diagrams. There is also a performance test and access to secure gateways. When purchased via AsTools, you receive 1 year of software updates.

  • Finding the OBD port: The location of the diagnostic connector per model.
  • Warning lights: A library of warning lights and their meaning.

  • Performance test: Measure acceleration, such as 0 to 100 km/h.
  • Reports: Create and share a diagnostic report.
  • Firmware: Updates automatically via Bluetooth.

How to use it

  1. Installing the app: Install the Topdon app and log in or register.
  2. Connecting: Plug the TopScan Master into the OBD port, ignition off.
  3. Pairing: Switch the ignition on and pair via Bluetooth.
  4. Loading software: On first use, download the vehicle software.
  5. Scanning: Scan the car and use live data, tests and service functions.

Engine and transmission

  • Oil reset: Resetting the service interval.
  • Throttle valve (ETS): Learn the throttle valve after cleaning or replacement.
