The Autool PT620 is a digital oil pressure gauge with a measurement range of 0 to 29.4 bar. The PT620 measures engine oil pressure at the oil pressure sensor location. This resolves the question left open by the oil pressure warning light: is the pressure genuinely too low, or is it a faulty sensor or wiring? With eighteen adapter types, the adapter set is the largest in the range, because each manufacturer uses its own thread.
The device provides digital readings and records the highest and lowest values during measurement, along with the difference between them and the duration of the test. Connection is made using the supplied adapters: eighteen adapter types. Made from riveted copper, in the thread sizes found on the oil pressure sensors of most engines.

Application and functionality
The oil pressure warning lamp is a switch, not a measurement: it illuminates below a fixed threshold and tells you nothing about the actual pressure. The PT620 temporarily replaces that switch with a pressure gauge and displays the pressure as a figure, both at idle and at higher engine speeds, so you can compare the measured value against the manufacturer's specification.
In addition to the current pressure, the tester records the peak and minimum values, allowing you to compare idle against high-speed readings. The functions include:
- Live reading: The pressure at that moment.
- Highest and lowest values: Pmax and Pmin are held throughout the measurement.
- Difference between them: ΔP, the difference between the highest and lowest value.
- Measurement time: How long the measurement has been running.
- Eighteen adapters: The largest set in the range, for the various threads on oil pressure sensors.

How to perform the measurement
The sequence determines whether the measurement is worthwhile. This is the procedure Autool prescribes in the manual.
- Bring the engine to operating temperature: Cold oil is thicker and produces a higher pressure reading than the engine actually has.
- Remove the oil pressure sensor: Catch the oil that drains out and screw the matching adapter into place.
- Connect the gauge and set the zero point: Attach the hose before starting.
- Run the engine at idle and take the reading: Check the pressure and compare it with the manufacturer's specification; Pmax and Pmin will be recorded.
Where to use it
This measurement provides clarity in situations where the oil pressure warning lamp leaves you guessing:
- Oil pressure lamp is on or flashing: Testing distinguishes between low pressure and a faulty sensor or wiring.
- Ticking noise on cold start: Whether the pressure builds up quickly enough after starting.
- After switching to a different oil viscosity: Whether the new oil maintains adequate pressure.
- High mileage or pre-purchase inspection: An indication of oil pump condition and bearing clearance.
Which pressure gauge you need
