The Jaltest JDC629A is the diagnostic cable for the 6-pin Deutsch connector on marine inboard engines; the cable connects that connector to the 16-pin OBD2 port on Jaltest diagnostic equipment. The 6-pin Deutsch plug is located on the engine harness in the engine room, and in some installations routed to the wheelhouse. It's the connector used in heavy-duty engine and vehicle manufacturing for the SAE J1708/J1587 databus; Cojali supplies the cable as a universal Deutsch 6-pin connector and therefore not tied to any single engine manufacturer.
Through this connection, direct communication with the engine control module (ECM) of the inboard engine is established. Because the connector is manufacturer-independent, the diagnostic equipment can access the engine controllers that Jaltest Marine covers, including those from Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Iveco-FPT, John Deere, MAN, MTU, Scania, Volvo Penta, VM Motori and Yanmar; on twin installations, port and starboard appear as separate control units in the software. Coverage varies by engine controller: some are limited to reading and live data, while others also include parameter adjustment and reset functions. Neither recreational nor commercial marine vessels have a mandatory diagnostic connector requirement, which is why this connector remains in widespread use. The cable falls under Jaltest Marine.

Control units you can access
- The engine control module (ECM) of your inboard motor: Which version depends on the engine brand and series; Jaltest displays this per motor in the coverage, including fault codes, measured values, and ECU data.
- Port and starboard separately: For dual installations, Jaltest operates the engine controls independently.
What you can do
- Read and clear fault codes: Access the fault memory of the engine control unit and clear it after repairs.
- View measured values: Current sensor readings from the motor, displayed as numbers and graphs.
- Actuate components and adjust parameters: For engine controls where Jaltest offers this capability, such as the Cummins ECM CM850 in Marine coverage.
- Reset maintenance: Clear service reminders on control units where Jaltest provides a reset procedure.
- Live data monitoring: Track system values during operation.
