The Launch X-431 EV Kit update licence extends your right to software updates for the EV software by one year. This is a licence for the software on your tester, not for the cables and connectors included in the kit. That kit is hardware and remains fully usable; it is the software that determines which battery packs your tester recognises and what it is allowed to do with them.
The licence is tied to the serial number of your X-431 tester, not to the kit and not to an account. We activate it within one working day on the serial number of your device. Without an active EV licence on the tester, battery pack diagnostics via the 8-pin diagnostic connector will not start, however complete the kit is.

Applications and functionality
Three things are tied to this licence. The vehicle coverage determines which electric models your tester recognises, the function files determine what it may do with the battery pack, and the online services provide what comes from outside.
What an extension gives you
- New vehicle coverage: Electric models and battery packs added since your last update become available.
- Battery pack files: The files behind the reading of cell voltages, temperature and the status of the Battery Management System are being expanded.
- Corrections and improvements: Error fixes and corrected procedures in the EV software are delivered through the same updates.
What happens without an extension
- No additions: New packs and new procedures will no longer be added to the tester.
- Online functions: Anything the software does not carry on board may no longer be available after the licence ends.
- No loss of function: What you do today with the kit and your tester you can still do after the licence has ended.

How does it work in practice?
The process runs in four steps. Allow for some download time if you have not updated in a year.
- Serial number: We need the serial number of your X-431 tester to link the licence; it is shown in the settings menu under the device information and on the sticker on the back.
- Registration with the manufacturer: We register your serial number for the new period, usually within one working day.
- Preparing the device: Make sure there is power and a stable Wi-Fi connection before you start the download.
- Updating the software: Select the available versions in the update menu and start the update.
