The Launch SmartLink C 2.0 update licence extends your right to software updates for the SmartLink C 2.0 by one year. The SmartLink C is not a tester but a diagnostic interface that does three things: on-site diagnostics, remote diagnostics and pass-thru according to J2534. It supports DoIP, CAN FD and CAN 2.0, and operates on 12 and 24 volts, so it works on passenger cars and trucks.

The licence is tied to the serial number of your SmartLink C, not to an account or a code. We activate it within one working day on the serial number of your interface. An extension keeps the protocol files, the pass-thru side and the online services up to date. If the term expires, nothing changes to what is already on the interface, but no new software will be added.

POINTS TO NOTE

✕One licence applies per serial number, so a second SmartLink C in the same workshop needs its own extension.
✕The SmartLink C is an interface and not a tester: a Launch tablet or a PC is required, and that is not included in this licence.
✕An extension provides software and no hardware, so adapter cables for vehicles without an OBD2 connector must still be purchased separately.
✕For remote diagnostics, a specialist works on your vehicle with their own factory software; that service runs via Launch and falls outside this extension.

Applications and functionality

Three things on the SmartLink C depend on the licence. The protocol files determine which vehicles the interface communicates with, the pass-thru side determines what is permitted through that route, and the online services provide what comes in from outside.

What an extension gives you

  • New vehicle coverage: Brands, models and model years added after your last update become available within the existing functions.
  • Pass-thru and reflashing: The files behind the J2534 side are expanded for newer control units.
  • Corrections and improvements: Error fixes and faster routines within the software itself are added through the same updates.

What happens without an extension

  • No additions: New coverage and new procedures no longer reach the interface.
  • Online functions: Services that run via the servers may be limited or no longer available after expiry.
  • No loss of functionality: What you do today with the SmartLink C you can still do after the licence expires.

How does it work in practice?

The process runs in four steps. Allow for some download time if you have not updated in a year.

  1. Serial number: We need the serial number of the SmartLink C to link the licence; you can read this from the small screen on the interface and from the sticker on the housing.
  2. Registration with the manufacturer: We register your serial number for the new period, usually within one working day.
  3. Preparing the device: Ensure power and a stable Wi-Fi connection before you start the download.
  4. Updating the software: Select the available versions in the update menu and start the update.
