TheOBDSTAR MS50 Basic is a diagnostic reader for motorcycles, mopeds, snowmobiles, ATVs and UTVs, supplied as a portable tablet with a 5.0-inch capacitive touchscreen of 800x480 pixels on Android 5.1.1. Inside you'll find a RK3128 quad-core ARM Cortex A7 processorwith a2600 mAh lithium-polymer battery, expandable with a micro SD card up to 32 GB. When purchasing, you receive a 1-year licence.
The device reads fault codes, displays live data streams as text, waveform or instrument display, performs actuator tests out and supports coding and programming of control modules. OBDSTAR supplies the Basic with two apps: MOTO Diagfor diagnostics andProgrammer. This is the entry-level model: the Basic diagnoses twenty brands complete, compared to thirty-five on the MS50 STD. What you can actually do on a specific motorcycle depends on the installed software and diagnostic adapter that comes with that brand's connection.

Applications and functionality
The device connects to the motorcycle's diagnostic port and accesses the control modules present.
Systems you can access
- Engine management: The control module for fuel injection and ignition, where most diagnostics takes place.
- ABS: Read, control and configure the anti-lock braking system module on ABS-equipped models.
- Immobiliser: The engine immobiliser system, for learning keys and transponders.
- Instrument cluster: The speedometer and its associated control module, including coding.
- Suspension: Electronic suspension control and air suspension, where the model is equipped with it.
- Handlebar switches: The electrical switch blocks on the left and right of the handlebar, each independently diagnosable.
- EPS: Electric power steering on models fitted with this system.
- BMS: The battery management system of electric and hybrid two-wheelers.
- Alarm and parking: The alarm system and parking functions.
- TPMS: The tyre pressure monitoring system.
- Other modules: Which additional modules are accessible varies by manufacturer, model and year of manufacture.
What you can do
- Automatic scanning and VIN recognition: Inventory all available modules in one operation and automatically identify the vehicle.
- Read and clear fault codes: Retrieve stored and active codes from the control modules and clear the memory after repair.
- Monitor live data: View sensor and actuator values in real time as text, waveform or instrument display.
- Record and playback data: Capture a ride and review it later to locate a fault that does not occur on demand.
- Actuator tests: Control individual components and actuators to assess operation without disassembly.
- Code and programme control modules: Code and programme modules after replacement, where the vehicle system permits.
- ECU settings and instrument coding: Set parameters in engine management and code the instrument cluster.
- Adjust and reprogram fuel injection: Modify fuel injection and rewrite injection data on supported models.
- Special adjustments: CIP settings, code-and-reset and manufacturer-specific procedures from the OBDSTAR database.

Engine and drivetrain
- Oil service reset: Reset the service interval after an oil change.
- Throttle body learning: Learn the basic position of the electronic throttle valve after cleaning or replacement.
- Idle speed calibration: Calibrate the idle speed following maintenance to the intake system.
- CO adjustment: Adjust the CO percentage for correct fuel mixture ratio and emission values.
- Air-fuel ratio reset: Reset the adaptive values of the engine management system.
- Lambda sensor adaptation reset: Clear learned correction values after sensor replacement.
- Engine adaptation reset: Clear general learned values after component repair or replacement.
Transmission, brakes and other systems
- Transmission adaptation reset: Reset learned shift values from the transmission control module.
- ABS bleeding: Activate the ABS pump to bleed the brake system after servicing.
- Tyre pressure monitoring system reset: Reset the TPMS where fitted to the motorcycle.
- Odometer correction: Adjust the stored mileage on supported models.
- EOL mode: Perform end-of-line procedures on supported control modules.
- Clear control module memory: Remove stored data from a control module for a clean starting point.
Supported vehicle makes
The combination of make, model and year of manufacture is decisive, not the make alone. OBDSTAR divides MS50 Basic coverage across two separate lists. A make that appears only in the odometer list cannot be fully diagnosed. For some makes, a separate diagnostic adapter is also required; see the lists below.
