The Launch X-431 PAD VII Elite update licence extends your right to software updates for the PAD VII Elite by one year. What the device can do is determined by the software and not by the hardware. The PAD VII Elite is a 13.3-inch diagnostic tablet with an IP65 housing that works via the SmartLink C and supports J2534, D-PDU, RP1210, CAN FD and DoIP.

The licence is tied to the serial number of your PAD VII Elite, not to an account or a code. We activate it within one working day on the serial number of your device. An extension keeps the vehicle coverage, the coding and programming files and the service functions up to date. When the term expires, the device remains fully functional for the models and functions already on it, but no new software will be added.

POINTS TO NOTE

✕One licence applies per serial number, so a second PAD VII Elite in the same workshop needs its own extension.
✕The ADAS calibration of the PAD VII Elite works with optional modules; these are purchased separately and an extension does not change that.
✕An extension provides software and not hardware, so an oscilloscope, a videoscope and a key programmer remain to be purchased separately.
✕Downloading requires a stable Wi-Fi connection; on a busy guest network a large update may take a long time.

Applications and functionality

Three things on the PAD VII Elite depend on the licence. The vehicle coverage determines which cars the device recognises, the function files determine what it can do with them, and the online services provide what comes in from outside.

What an extension gives you

  • New vehicle coverage: Brands, models and model years added after your last update become available within the existing diagnostic functions.
  • Programming files: The files behind online coding and programming are expanded for newer control units.
  • Service functions: New and corrected service and reset procedures are added through the same updates.
  • Corrections and improvements: Fault fixes and faster routines within the software itself are included.

What happens without an extension

  • No additions: New coverage and new procedures will no longer be added to the device.
  • Online functions: Anything that runs via the manufacturer's servers may be limited or no longer available after expiry.
  • No loss of functions: Anything you do with the PAD VII Elite today you can still do after the licence has expired.

How does it work in practice?

The process takes four steps. Allow for some download time if you have not updated for a year.

  1. Serial number: We need the serial number of the PAD VII Elite to link the licence; it is shown in the settings menu under device information and on the sticker on the back.
  2. Registration with the manufacturer: We register your serial number for the new period, usually within one working day.
  3. Preparing the device: Make sure there is power and a stable Wi-Fi connection before you start the download.
  4. Updating the software: Select the available versions in the update menu and start the update.
