The Jaltest Marine Inboard is a complete diagnostic system for the engine mounted in the hull: A case containing the Jaltest Link V9, the unit you connect to the engine's diagnostic connector, and the software that runs on your own laptop.
With it, you access the control units of inboard engines, stern drives and the generators on board, from the diesel engines of Volvo Penta and Cummins to the petrol engines of MerCruiser. The module covers 38 brands. A new software version is released three times per year.
This set contains everything required to carry out diagnostics: The Link, the software activation and the software licence for the first year. We activate the module as soon as you receive the unit, based on the serial number of the supplied Link; you don't need to provide anything yourself. You'll need to arrange a laptop and the marine cables separately.
KEY BENEFITS
POINTS TO NOTE
What's in the box
The case contains the hardware you use to establish the connection, as well as the software rights that unlock the Inboard module. The hardware is the same as in the standalone set 70001053; the difference between the four Marine diagnostic readers lies in the software module rather than the case. Below you'll find details of each component, what it is and which reference number applies.
Hardware
- Jaltest Link V9 (70001015): The diagnostic interface you connect to the engine's diagnostic connector, with 26-pin DB26 to the cable and USB-C to the PC.
- Multipin Kit Jaltest Marine (70002007): Twenty multipins JTP01 through JTP10, each in two colours, the connection cable JTP101 and the power cable JDC10AM2 with battery clamps. This lets you connect directly to a connector for which no dedicated diagnostic cable exists.
- OBD cable, 16-pin (JDC213.9): The standard cable for the standard diagnostic connector.
- USB-C cable (JDC107.9B): The connection between the Link and your laptop.
- Extension cable, 250 cm (JDC100B): With a 26-pin DB26 connector, the wide connector on the Link itself. Two and a half times longer than the JDC100 in other Jaltest cases, because on board the engine is rarely within easy reach of where the laptop is situated.
- Case (70003015): The compact version, 505 x 381 x 146 mm.
Software
- Software (74502003): The one-time purchase that unlocks the Inboard module.
- Licence activation, twelve months (74502015): The right to use it for the first year.
- INFO Online Marine (29479): The technical information accompanying the software. Included, not available separately, and free from 2026 onwards.
- Jaltest GRP: Cojali's workshop software for customers, vessels and reports.
A laptop and the marine cables are not included. See Cables and computer further down this page.
Which engines and systems
Jaltest Marine Inboard covers the engine in the hull, with the stern drive behind it and the generators that supply power on board. A brand in the list means support is available, not that every model and year of manufacture is fully covered. The division by continent refers to the country of origin of the brand, not its current owner.
Inboard engines and generators
Well-known brands among the inboard engines covered by Jaltest Marine Inboard: Caterpillar, Cummins, MAN, Mercury MerCruiser, MTU, Scania, Vetus, Volvo Penta and Yammer.
All 38 inboard engine brands, divided by continent:
European includes the United Kingdom, Turkey and Russia. Chinese is separate from Asian, which covers Japan, South Korea and India. The division is based on the country of origin of the brand rather than its current owner, and engine manufacturers are assigned to the region of their own country.
Onboard systems
- Engine management: The engine control unit, including Volvo Penta EDC1 and EDC CP on the diesel engines, and the ECM EGC and MEFI 1–2 and 3–4 on the petrol engines.
- Fuel system: Injection, injectors and fuel pressure, including bleeding after filter replacement.
- Exhaust aftertreatment: The particulate filter, with forced regeneration and reset of soot and ash values.
- Transmission and stern drive: The electronically controlled gearboxes and clutches behind the engine.
- Control: Electronic control, including Volvo Penta IPS with joystick operation and EVC modules.
- Sensors: Turbo pressure, oil pressure and coolant temperature.
- Generators and auxiliary sets: The units that supply power on board.
The four Marine packages side by side
The four Marine diagnostic readers share the same case 70001053 and the same Jaltest Link V9; the difference lies entirely in the software module. Below you'll find what each set covers for each one, so you can see which suits your work.
What you can do with it
With the Inboard module you read out the control units, monitor live data and control components. In addition, it includes a reference guide with wiring diagrams, fault-finding guides and maintenance information for the system you're working on.
Diagnostics and service
- Read and clear fault codes: The fault memory of the control unit, with active, inactive and permanent codes and a description for each code.
- Live data: Engine speed, turbo pressure, oil pressure, fuel pressure and coolant temperature, displayed as numbers or graphs.
- Control components: Injectors, fuel pump and valves — operate them directly to assess their function.
- ECU data: Part number, serial number, software version and total running hours of the control unit.
- Maintenance and service: Particulate filter regeneration, injector coding, cylinder deactivation, compression testing, fuel system bleeding and service interval reset.
- Calibrations and learning procedures: Gearbox and clutch adjustment, electronic control unit and joystick learning, and calibration of turbo boost, oil pressure and coolant temperature sensors.
Technical information included
- Wiring diagrams: Engine system electrical schematics with clickable fuses, ground connections, sensors, control units and wiring.
- Technical specifications: Torque settings, adjustment data, fluid specifications and sensor, actuator and control unit parameters.
- Repair guides by fault code: Step-by-step guidance for each fault code found, including wiring inspection, component testing and recommended solution.
- Symptom-based troubleshooting: Search without a fault code, based on a complaint such as difficult starting, loss of power or overheating.
- Technical bulletins: Cojali notices on common faults and recurring issues by manufacturer.
- Service data: Service schedules based on running hours, with service procedures and replacement of filters, impellers, V-belts, thermostats and anodes.
The difference with expert mode
Basic diagnostics means reading, measuring and actuating. In expert mode you also modify parameters in the control units: sensor and actuator calibration, setting of operating parameters and carrying out learning procedures. This mode is included here.
Cables and computer
The case contains the 16-pin OBD cable for the standard connection. On the water, a standardised OBD connection has never been mandatory, so virtually every engine manufacturer keeps its own diagnostic connector, even on new engines. The software itself runs on a Windows PC.
- Inboard cable set (70002009): Eight cables — JDC527A, JDC603A, JDC604.9, JDC611A, JDC612A, JDC614A, JDC617A and JDC618A9.
- Volvo Penta: JDC527A for the 6-pin connection on diesel engines with EDC1 and EDC CP, JDC611A for the 6-pin EGCI connection on petrol engines and JDC618A9 for KAD, KAMD and TAMD engines.
- Mercury and MerCruiser: JDC603A for the wide 4-pin connector, JDC604.9 for the 10-pin MEFI connection, JDC614A for the 2-pin A9 connector and JDC617A for SmartCraft G3 electronics.
- Extension cable JDC100B: Some of the marine cables require the JDC100B on a Jaltest Link V9; this is included in this case.
- Broader package: The vessel cable set 70002008 contains the same eight cables plus JDC601A, JDC608A, JDC609.9, JDC613A and JDC616A.
- Computer: The software runs on Windows. Cojali supplies the Jaltest Rugged PC and the A140 Rugged PAD; both are available separately in our online shop.
The cable you need is determined by the diagnostic connection on the engine, not the name on the engine cover. Check the connector on the engine itself before ordering: If it is the 16-pin OBD2 connection, the supplied JDC213.9 will suffice; if it is a manufacturer-specific connector, the corresponding cable is listed above.
Licence and renewal
The software licence runs for twelve months from activation and is then renewed annually with the update licence (74602003). As long as the licence is active, you receive all new software versions and maintain access to the technical information.
- Term: Twelve months from activation.
- Renewal: Annually, with the update licence (74602003), each time for a further twelve months.
- Installations: Up to five PCs. Jaltest hardware is always required to run the software.
- Registration: Upon activation, after each new software version, and thereafter every six months.
- Purchase a module later: A module purchased later is aligned with your current licence; you pay on a pro-rata basis.
- No renewal: Diagnostics continues to work on the last installed version, but access to technical information is lost. Cojali continues to support an expired licence for one year.
Update licence (renewal after the free period)
The renewal price may vary slightly. Already own the device? We will ask for the serial number after your order.
Optional add-ons
In addition to the Inboard module, there are extensions that you order separately. They are not required to diagnose, but they expand the reference material, support or coverage. Below is what belongs to Marine.
- Jaltest ATS (70809004): One year's access to Cojali's English-language technical helpdesk. Renews automatically; cancellation is possible in writing up to thirty days before expiry.
- Jaltest Central Services: Work carried out by Cojali specialists for you, per procedure.
- The other Marine modules: Marine Outboard (74502004) and Marine Jetski (74502005) can be added separately, or you take Marine Full (74502001) all at once, which covers all four areas.
