DeTopdon TopScan Moto is a diagnostic scanner in the form of a VCI dongle, designed for performing diagnostics and maintenance on motorcycles. The VCI connects via Bluetooth 5.0 connection with an iOS or Android smartphone, on which the accompanying app provides the interface for all functions. The system supports full system diagnostics, reading and clearing fault codes, viewing live data and more than 13 service functions. The licence includes 1 year free updates.

Thisdiagnostic scanner offers additional features such as actuator testing to control and monitor components directly. The software also provides access to Technical Service Bulletins (TSB), including technical specifications and manufacturer repair instructions. Users can generate, save and share detailed diagnostic reports following each session. The compact form factor of the VCI makes it a portable solution for diagnostic work.

KEY FEATURES

✕Adapter cables are not included: The dongle features a 16-pin OBD2 connector, but most motorcycles don't have this socket. BMW uses 10 pins, Harley-Davidson 4 and 6 pins, and Ducati employs its own connector. Factor in the appropriate cable kit when purchasing.
✕The brand list is short: Beyond BMW, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha, this device won't support other manufacturers. If your customer base rides KTM, Aprilia, Triumph or Chinese brands, this is not the right diagnostic tool for you.
✕After the first year, it becomes a subscriptionThe included update period is 1 year, whereas larger diagnostic devices typically offer 2 years. After this period, you can renew annually to continue receiving new models and model years.
✕Not every phone worksTopdon advises that the device is not compatible with certain Samsung A-series models and specific Motorola phones. Please verify compatibility before placing your order.

Diagnostic functions:

The Topdon TopScan Moto performs a comprehensive system diagnostic across all electronic control units present on the motorcycle.

  • Read and clear fault codes:Reads and clears fault codes (DTCs) from all available systems, including engine, ABS and instrument cluster. Fault code definitions are displayed directly.
  • Live data:Displays real-time sensor and component data in various formats, including graphs and text views. This enables you to monitor and analyse system performance effectively.
  • Actuator testing:Sends commands directly to individual components and actuators to test functionality without removing the part. This allows you to activate injectors, fans or valves, for example.
  • ECU information retrieval:Reads control unit details such as software version, part number and other specifications.

Service and maintenance functions:

The Topdon TopScan Moto supports more than 13 service functions for repair and maintenance of motorcyclesThe available functions may vary depending on the make and model.

Motor and drivetrain:

  • Maintenance interval reset:Resets the service light and maintenance interval after completing a service.
  • Throttle body learning:Initialises the throttle actuators, allowing the control unit to relearn throttle positions after replacement or cleaning.
  • Adjust idle speed:Enables adjustment of the engine idle speed for stable operation.
  • CO adjustment:Adjust the carbon dioxide emission value to comply with emission standards or for optimal performance.
  • Air-fuel ratio adjustment (A/F):Adjusts the air-fuel ratio for efficient combustion and engine performance.
  • ECU reset:Restores the engine control unit to standard factory settings, which can be useful after performing repairs.

Braking and safety systems:

  • ABS bleeding:Performs the automatic bleeding procedure for the anti-lock braking system to remove air from the brake system and restore braking performance.
  • Tyre pressure monitoring system reset (TPMS):Resets the TPMS and relearns sensors after sensor or tyre replacement.

Electrical and diagnostic equipment:

  • Key programming (IMMO): Provides functionality for programming new keys and managing the immobiliser. The exact features vary by manufacturer.
  • Reading odometer data: Reads the stored mileage from the control unit to verify the value displayed on the instrument cluster.
