This is not a code to ignore: your particulate filter is clogged, and a normal cleaning no longer works. The sooner you address this, the greater the chance you can avoid an expensive replacement.

What does error code P242F mean?

A diesel captures soot particles in the particulate filter, also called DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter). Normally, the car burns off that soot at high temperature, called regeneration. But combustion also leaves ash behind, and that ash does not disappear. After many kilometers or a series of failed regenerations, the filter becomes so full that the backpressure is too high. The computer detects that the filter can no longer be cleaned and sets P242F.

  1. Read the loading live. Use a scanner to check the soot and ash loading and the backpressure of the DPF. This shows whether the filter is really full or if a sensor is lying.
  2. Try a forced regeneration. Start a forced or service regeneration with a suitable scanner and see if the soot value decreases.
  3. Check the pressure sensor and hoses. Inspect the differential pressure sensor and hoses for cracks, dirt, or loose connections.
  4. Assess if the filter is really spent. If everything points to real ash saturation, professional DPF cleaning or replacement is needed. Ash loading cannot be removed by regeneration.
