Don’t panic: this code almost always points to your Battery or alternator, and with a few simple tests, you’ll quickly know which one is the culprit.

What does error code P0562 mean?

Your car operates on an electrical system of about 12 to 14.5 volts. The Battery provides the voltage to start, then the alternator takes over and recharges the Battery. Step-by-step plan: how to find the cause yourself

  1. Measure the battery voltage at rest. Turn off the engine and measure with a multimeter on the battery terminals. A healthy battery reads around 12.6 V.
  2. Measure with the engine running. Start the car and measure again. The charging voltage should now be about 13.8 to 14.5 V. Much lower indicates a charging problem.
  3. Test the battery with a battery tester. A battery tester reads the CCA value and tells you if the battery is still healthy or needs replacement.
  4. Check the battery terminals and ground cable. Look for corrosion and ensure everything is tight. Clean dirty terminals and tighten them.
