The timing set (VT18280) is a comprehensive tool set for adjusting and checking engine timing on BMW and MINI vehicles. The set is specifically developed for use on the B38, B48, and B58 petrol engines.
The set contains all necessary components for locking the camshafts and crankshaft. Additionally, there are tools available for fixing the flywheel, tensioning the timing chain, and adjusting the VANOS adjusters. The tools are supplied in a sturdy storage case.
Application and functionality:
This timing set is used for performing maintenance and repairs on the distribution system, such as replacing the timing chain or cylinder head gasket.
- Locking the camshafts: Tools for fixing the camshafts in the correct position during maintenance.
- Locking the crankshaft: A locking pin to secure the crankshaft via the flywheel in the TDC (top dead center) position.
- Fixing the flywheel: Specific tool to lock the flywheel or flexplate on vehicles with an automatic transmission.
- Tensioning the timing chain: A dummy chain tensioner to maintain the correct tension on the chain during work.
- Adjusting the VANOS unit: Special tool for positioning and adjusting the VANOS adjusters.
