The timing set (VT01812) is designed for locking the camshafts and crankshaft on BMW vehicles with N51, N52, N53, N54, and N55 petrol engines. This tool is intended for use during maintenance work on the timing chain, such as replacing the chain, adjusting valve timing, or assembling and disassembling the camshafts.
The set contains specific locking tools for the camshaft, tailored to different engine generations, an alignment tool for the VANOS adjusters, and a crankshaft locking pin. Additionally, a chain tensioner and locking pins are included to correctly pre-tension the timing chain. The entire set is supplied in a plastic storage case.
Application and functionality:
This set enables precise adjustment and checking of engine timing on various BMW 6-cylinder petrol engines.
- Locking the camshafts: Fixes the camshafts in the correct position relative to each other and the crankshaft. The set includes multiple templates for compatibility with N51/N52, N53/N54, and N55 engines.
- Locking the crankshaft: The supplied pin is used to lock the flywheel, fixing the crankshaft at the top dead center (TDC) of the first cylinder.
- Aligning VANOS adjusters: The alignment tool is used for correctly positioning the VANOS sensor discs during assembly.
- Tensioning the timing chain: The tensioning tool simulates the working pressure of the hydraulic chain tensioner, which is necessary for correct adjustment.
