The timing set (VT01656) is designed for locking the camshafts and crankshaft on BMW vehicles. This tool is specifically intended for use with 6-cylinder gasoline engines with the engine codes N51, N52, N53, and N54. It ensures correct engine timing during maintenance procedures such as replacing the timing chain or the cylinder head gasket.
This 12-piece set includes all necessary components for proper adjustment, including two different camshaft locking jigs for the various engine series, tools for locking the camshaft sensors (VANOS), and a flywheel locking pin to secure the crankshaft in the TDC position (top dead center). The parts are supplied in a plastic storage case.
Application and functionality:
This set is used for adjusting and checking engine timing during maintenance of the timing system.
- Locking the crankshaft: The included flywheel locking pin is used to fix the crankshaft in the TDC position, providing a stable base for further adjustments.
- Securing the camshafts: The specific alignment tools for the N51/N52 and N53/N54 engines lock the camshafts in their correct position relative to the crankshaft.
- Aligning the VANOS sensors: With the locking tools for the camshaft sensors, the VANOS adjusters can be precisely positioned and secured during assembly.
