The timing set (VT01531) is a collection of tools for locking the crankshaft and camshafts. This set is specifically developed for maintenance of the timing chain of various VAG 2.4L, 3.2L, and 4.2L FSI engines with chain drive.
The set contains parts such as camshaft locking tool, a crankshaft locking pin, a turning tool for the crankshaft pulley, and various pins and holders for the chain tensioners. All tools are supplied in a plastic storage case for organized storage and transport.
Application and functionality:
These tools are intended for performing maintenance and repair work on the timing system, such as checking and adjusting the timing or replacing the timing chain.
- Locking the camshafts: Secures the camshafts in the correct position using the locking tools (T40133).
- Locking the crankshaft: Locks the crankshaft at the top dead center (TDC) with the locking pin (T40069).
- Turning the crankshaft: Enables manual rotation of the engine via the crankshaft pulley with the special turning tool (3212).
- Fixing the chain tensioner: Holds the timing chain tensioner pressed during assembly or disassembly with the locking pin (T40071) and holders (T10172).
- Aligning camshaft adjusters: The special socket wrench (T40058) is used for the central bolt of the camshaft adjuster.
