This single cable combines the two most common standards for truck diagnostics: the older, 6-pin J1708 connector and the modern 9-pin J1939 CAN bus connector. Both are brought together in one universal 16-pin OBD2-style female port.
This adapter is an indispensable tool for any mechanic, workshop, or fleet manager working with a mixed fleet of both older and newer trucks. It eliminates the need to constantly switch between different adapter cables, significantly speeding up and simplifying the diagnostic process. The robust construction is designed for long-term use in demanding conditions.
Application and functionality:
The primary function of this Y-cable is to provide a universal connection for a multi-brand truck scanner to virtually any heavy truck or bus. The technician selects the correct connector (6-pin or 9-pin) present in the vehicle and connects it. Then the diagnostic interface is connected to the 16-pin port.
- 6-pin J1708 connector: Provides access to the older J1708/J1587 protocols, used for engine and transmission diagnostics on vehicles from before approximately 2005.
- 9-pin J1939 connector: Provides access to modern CAN bus networks (J1939), for full system diagnostics on contemporary vehicles.
The cable itself is a passive pass-through; the connected scanner must support the relevant protocols.
