The Topdon VIS002 UV is an inspection camera with its own screen and an 8.5 mm camera head. The head contains three white LEDs and three 365 nm UV LEDs. With white light you look into dark spaces; with UV light you see leak detection fluid glow, for example in the case of an air conditioning or oil leak.

You steer the head with a thumb wheel through 210 degrees to the left and right. The semi-rigid 1 metre probe holds the shape you give it. The image appears on a 4.3-inch IPS screen, without an app or phone. You save photos and videos with sound to a microSD card of 32 GB, which is included.

POINTS TO NOTE

✕Low resolution — The camera has 0.3 megapixels; this is limited for fine details.
✕1 metre probe — For long pipes or deep hollow beams this may be too short.
✕Only the probe is waterproof — The handle with the screen is not IP67.
✕UV fluid sold separately — Leak detection requires UV contrast fluid, which is not included.

The VIS002 UV is intended for inspections in places you cannot see directly, and for detecting leaks with UV contrast fluid in the workshop, in installation technology and in maintenance.

Workshop applications

  • Air conditioning leaks: Make leak detection fluid glow under UV light.
  • Oil and coolant: Locate leak points where UV fluid has been added.
  • Combustion chamber: Inspect the piston crown and valves through the spark plug hole.
  • Hollow beams: Check for rust and dirt in sills and beams.

How to use it

  3. Choose light: Choose white light to inspect, or UV light for leak detection.
  4. Insert and steer: Insert the probe and steer the head with the thumb wheel.
  5. Record: Take a photo or video with sound and save it to the card.

Good to know: When searching for leaks, first add UV contrast fluid to the system and let the engine or air conditioning run for a moment. Then inspect in as dark an environment as possible: the glow is then easiest to see.
