The Topdon Phoenix update licence extends your entitlement to software updates for the Phoenix by one or two years. The Phoenix is the first model in the Topdon Phoenix series, a diagnostic tablet for passenger cars. While the licence is active, each new software version is delivered via the update menu on the device itself.

When ordering, you must provide the serial number of your Phoenix; this is mandatory. You will then receive the extension card by email, usually within one working day, and enter the code in the update menu under Extend. An extension keeps the vehicle coverage up to date and keeps the online functions available. If the licence expires, the Phoenix will continue to work on the last installed version; system and app updates will still be received as normal.

POINTS TO NOTE

✕When ordering, you must provide the serial number of your device; this is mandatory.
✕Without a licence, the basic functions for Chrysler from 2018 will also no longer work, as these run online.
✕SGW unlocking for Renault requires an active licence and is charged separately per unlock.
✕The code can be used only once; keep the email until you have entered it on the device.

Applications and functionality

An active licence affects three components of the Phoenix. These are the vehicle coverage, the function files and the online functions. Below is what an extension provides and what happens if you do not extend.

What an extension gives you

  • New vehicle coverage: Makes, models and model years added after your last update become available within the existing diagnostic functions.
  • Broader service functions: The service functions continue to match newer vehicles as manufacturers change their systems.
  • Online functions: Diagnostics and coding that run via Topdon's servers remain accessible.

What happens without an extension

  • New versions: No new vehicle software will be added; you keep the versions from before the end date.
  • Chrysler from 2018: Fault codes, live data, active tests, service functions and online coding stop, as these run online.
  • Renault SGW: Unlocking the secured gateway is no longer possible.
  • System and app: Operating system and app updates will continue to be received as normal.

This update licence is valid only for the device listed below. The Phoenix Lite, Pro, Plus, Elite, Smart and Max each have their own licence.

How does it work in practice?

From order to updated device takes four steps. Allow for some download time if you have not updated for a long period.

  1. Provide serial number: When ordering, state the serial number of your Phoenix; this is mandatory.
  2. Receive card: You will receive the extension card with the code by email, usually within one working day.
  3. Enter code: Open the update menu on the Phoenix, select Extend and enter the code from the card.
  4. Install updates: Connect the Phoenix to Wi-Fi, select the available versions and start the installation.
