Topdon BT50 | Battery Tester

The Topdon BT50 is a Battery tester designed for analyzing the condition of 12V lead-acid Batteries. The device can test Batteries with a capacity between 100 and 2000 CCA (Cold Cranking Amps). The tester measures various parameters, including the State of Health (SoH), the State of Charge (SoC), internal resistance, nominal voltage, and the CCA value. The results are displayed on a compact display, allowing a quick assessment of the Battery status.

In addition to the standard Battery test, the BT50 also offers the functionality to check the starting and charging system of a vehicle. The starting test analyzes the starting voltage and time to assess the condition of the starting system. The charging test checks the performance of the alternator under different loads to determine the correct operation of the charging system. The device is equipped with reverse polarity protection, which prevents damage to the tester or the Battery in case of incorrect connection.

Application and functionality:

The BT50 is designed for quickly and easily performing various tests on 12V vehicle Batteries and related systems. The main functions are:

• Battery test: Analyzes the overall condition of the Battery by measuring the State of Health (SoH), State of Charge (SoC), internal resistance, and the actual CCA value.
• Cranking test: Measures the minimum starting voltage and the start time during engine start to evaluate the condition of the starting system.
• Charging test: Checks the operation of the charging system (dynamo) by measuring the output voltage unloaded, loaded, and at ripple voltage.
• Result analysis: Provides a clear indication of the Battery status, such as "Good Battery", "Good, Recharge", "Replace", "Bad Cell, Replace" or "Charge, Retest".

• Regular filled (Flooded): Standard maintenance-free or non-maintenance-free lead-acid batteries.
• AGM Flat Plate: Batteries with Absorbent Glass Mat technology in a flat plate construction.
• AGM Spiral: Batteries with Absorbent Glass Mat technology in a spiral construction.
• GEL: Batteries where the electrolyte is bound in a gel form.
• EFB: Enhanced Flooded Battery, an improved version of the traditional wet battery, often used in vehicles with start-stop systems.
