The Tesla 26-pin to 16-pin adapter cable is a specialized diagnostic adapter specifically designed for the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y. Unlike traditional car manufacturers, Tesla does not use a standard OBD2 port for in-depth diagnostics. Instead, these models have a 26-pin connector, hidden behind a panel in the center console, which provides access to the vehicle's CAN bus systems.
This adapter functions as an essential "pass-through" bridge, creating a connection between the Tesla-specific port and a standard 16-pin OBD2 connector. This allows owners and specialized mechanics to monitor the large amount of vehicle data with a compatible OBD2 dongle (often Bluetooth) and specific software. The cable is designed to correctly pass through the CAN bus pins without disturbing the vehicle's systems.
Application and functionality:
The primary application of this cable is the unlocking of live vehicle data, such as information about the battery, drivetrain, and other subsystems. In combination with a quality OBD2 Bluetooth adapter (such as OBDLink LX/MX+) and software like Scan My Tesla, users can read out, among other things, the following data:
- Individual cell voltages of the battery pack
- Charging speeds and charging status
- Temperatures of components
- Performance of the drive unit
- Detailed consumption per subsystem
This information goes far beyond what is normally available on the car's display.
Compatible with the vehicle makes and models listed below:
This adapter cable is exclusively compatible with the following Tesla models:
- Tesla Model 3: produced from January 2019
- Tesla Model Y: all production years
For Model 3 vehicles produced before January 2019, a different 20-pin connector is required. The 26-pin port is located at the back of the center console, under the air vent.
