The Adapter Cable connects vehicles of the Subaru brand with a 9-pin OBD1 diagnostic connection to modern 16-pin OBD2 reading equipment. This cable is specifically designed to enable diagnosis on older Subaru models that are not yet equipped with the standardized 16-pin OBD2 port. The cable ensures a correct physical connection between the vehicle and the diagnostic device.

The adapter converts the pin-out of the vehicle-specific 9-pin connector to the universal 16-pin connector of the diagnostic device. This allows fault codes (DTC's) to be read and reset, and depending on the scanner used, live data from the engine and sensors can be viewed. The cable functions as a passive pass-through and requires no external power or software installation.

Application and functionality:

This cable is used to establish a connection between the older 9-pin diagnostic port of a Subaru and a modern OBD2 reading device.

  • Diagnosis on OBD1 vehicles: Enables diagnosis with a 16-pin OBD2 scanner on Subaru vehicles equipped with a 9-pin port.
  • Reading fault codes: Supports reading and clearing fault codes from the engine control unit (ECU) with compatible reading equipment.
  • Physical conversion: Converts the physical 9-pin connection to the standardized 16-pin OBD2 connection without protocol conversion.

Compatible vehicles and Application:

This Adapter Cable is designed for use with specific, older models of Subaru that feature the 9-pin diagnostic connector. These are generally models from the early to mid '90s.

Subaru:

  • Impreza (GC, GF): (Circa 1993-2000)
  • Justy: (Circa 1993-1995)
  • Legacy (BD, BG): (Circa 1994-1999)
  • SVX: (Circa 1992-1997)
