The OBDSTAR M074 connects the 3-pin diagnostic connector on Yanmar engines to the 16-pin OBD2 (J1962) port of your OBDSTAR diagnostic device. On the engine side, the Yanmar-specific 3-pin connector attaches to the factory diagnostic socket; on the device side sits a standard OBD2 female connector.
Yanmar uses a proprietary 3-pin connector on these combustion engines instead of an OBD2 port. Cable length and wiring are matched to the pin configuration of the Yanmar protocol, ensuring the correct signal lines reach the diagnostic tool unaltered. The connection the cable establishes runs to the engine control unit (ECU) of the Yanmar engine. What you can do with it afterwards depends on the software support of your own OBDSTAR device for that particular engine type; the cable adds no additional coverage.
ADVANTAGES
LIMITATIONS
Applications and functionality
Via the 3-pin connection you can access the engine control unit of the Yanmar engine.
Control units you can reach
- Engine control unit (ECU): The control unit of the Yanmar engine where the 3-pin diagnostic connection is located.
- Other modules: Whether additional units are accessible varies by engine type and device.
What you can do
- Read fault codes: Retrieve stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from the Yanmar ECU and display them on the OBDSTAR device.
- Clear fault codes: Clear the memory of the engine control unit after diagnosis.
- Monitor live data: Read real-time engine parameters such as engine speed, temperatures and sensor values whilst the engine is running.
- Convert connection: The 3-pin diagnostic port is converted to the 16-pin OBD2 connection of the OBDSTAR hardware.
- Note: Available functions depend on the software support of your device for the relevant Yanmar engine type.
Compatible vehicles and applications
The 3-pin diagnostic connection is what matters, not the engine type. OBDSTAR does not provide engine types with model years for this cable; compatibility is determined by the connector present.
