The OBDSTAR M018A is an Adapter Cable that converts the vehicle-specific Yamaha 3-pin, 3-pin, and 4-pin OBD connectors to a standard 16-pin OBD2 (J1962) connector. The cable is designed for use with OBDSTAR diagnostic devices and programmers and provides access to the diagnostic systems of Yamaha Motorcycles equipped with a factory-specific diagnostic port. The cable set includes multiple connectors on the vehicle side, supporting various Yamaha connector types with a single cable.

The M018A connects the proprietary Yamaha diagnostic port — available in two versions with 3+3 and 4 pins respectively — to the J1962 OBD2 interface of the connected OBDSTAR device. Through this connection, the motorcycle’s diagnostic protocols, including K-line communication, are routed to the diagnostic system. The cable only converts the physical connection; signal processing and protocol assignment are fully handled by the OBDSTAR device. The fixed cable configuration on the vehicle side ensures the correct connector is attached to the diagnostic port of the respective Yamaha Motorcycle.

ADVANTAGES

Supports multiple Yamaha connector types (3+3 and 4 pins) within one cable set, eliminating the need to switch connectors.
The standard J1962 OBD2 connector on the device side connects directly to the OBD2 port of the OBDSTAR diagnostic system without an adapter.
Enables access to the diagnostic systems of Yamaha Motorcycles that do not have a standard OBD2 port.

CAUTIONS

Only suitable for use with OBDSTAR diagnostic devices or programmers; use with diagnostic systems from other manufacturers is not supported.
The cable is intended exclusively for Yamaha Motorcycles and cannot be used with other brands or vehicle categories.
Not all Yamaha models and years are supported; please consult the compatibility list of the OBDSTAR device before use.

Applications and Features

The OBDSTAR M018A supports the following diagnostic functions on Yamaha Motorcycles via a connected OBDSTAR device.

  • Read fault codes: The diagnostic device reads stored and active fault codes from the motorcycle’s ECU via the Yamaha diagnostic port.
  • Clear fault codes: After diagnosis and repairs, stored fault codes are cleared from the engine control memory.
  • Read live data: Real-time sensor values and system parameters are read during idling or riding, useful for targeted diagnosis.
  • Key and immobilizer programming: Keys or immobilizer components can be programmed via the OBDSTAR device, depending on the supported Yamaha model.
