The OBDSTAR VAG (7in1 TCM) is a cable set comprising six individual adapter cables, TCM-001A through TCM-006. Each cable features a vehicle-side connector that matches the TCM connector of a specific transmission control module, and terminates at the device end with a 16-pin OBD2 connector (J1962) for your OBDSTAR diagnostic tool. On the vehicle side, the connection attaches directly to the transmission, not to the OBD2 port in the cabin.
The set covers transmission control modules for the DQ200, DQ250, DL501, Di382, DQ380/DQ381/DQ500 and VL381 gearboxes, supporting both TEMIC and BOSCH control modules within the VW platform. These proprietary connectors exist because the module is accessed directly: signal transmission occurs via the original pin configuration of the respective TCM housing, independent of the vehicle network. This method is known as bench connection or direct TCM coupling and operates without requiring vehicle power via the OBD2 port in the cabin. The set provides access exclusively to the transmission control modules listed above. CONTINENTAL control modules are not included; these are supported only through the TCM-KIT 1 bundle. What you can subsequently read or write is determined by the software of your own OBDSTAR diagnostic device; the cables themselves do not add vehicle coverage.

Applications and functionality
Each cable in the set connects the TCM connector of one transmission type to your OBDSTAR device.
Control units you can access
- TEMIC control modules: The control units of the DQ200 (0AM/0CW), DQ250 (02E/0D9/CXX), DL501 (0B5), Di382 and VL381 (0AW), via cables TCM-001A, TCM-002A, TCM-003, TCM-004 and TCM-006.
- BOSCH control modules: The TCM of the DQ380/DQ381/DQ500 (0DE) for heavier vehicles, via cable TCM-005.
- Not included: CONTINENTAL control modules fall outside these six cables.
What you can do
- Read TCM: Retrieve the software and calibration data from the transmission control module via the direct TCM connector to your connected OBDSTAR device.
- Programme TCM: Write back modified or replacement software data, using the pin configuration of the specific transmission connector.
- Access dry and wet DSG gearboxes: Connect the DQ200 dry clutch and the DQ250 wet clutch each via their own cable for reading and writing operations.
- Access longitudinally mounted and heavier gearboxes: Connect the DL501 seven-speed automatic and the DQ380/DQ381/DQ500 wet clutch for higher torque directly.
- Access Di382 and VL381: Connect the control modules of these two gearboxes to the programmer via the corresponding cable from the set.
- Please note: Which operations are possible per gearbox depends on the software and licence of your OBDSTAR device; the cables provide the connection only.
Compatible vehicles and applications
The transmission type with its corresponding TCM connector is what matters, not the model. The set is assembled around the gearboxes listed below; the models mentioned are examples of platforms on which those gearboxes are fitted.
Volkswagen:
- DQ200 (0AM/0CW) — DSG 7-speed dry clutch: Applicable to models with this gearbox such as Golf, Polo, A3 and similar platforms
- DQ250 (02E/0D9/CXX) — DSG 6-speed wet clutch: Applicable to models with this gearbox such as Golf GTI, Tiguan and similar platforms
- DL501 (0B5) — S tronic 7-speed: Applicable to Audi models with longitudinal drivetrain such as A4, A5 and Q5
- Di382 — DSG automatic: Applicable to VW models equipped with the Di382 transmission
- DQ380/DQ381/DQ500 (0DE) — DSG 7-speed wet clutch (high torque): Applicable to models such as Tiguan, Touareg, Transporter and similar heavier platforms
- VL381 (0AW) — 8-speed automatic: Applicable to VW models equipped with the VL381 transmission
