The OBDSTAR VAG (7in1 TCM) Adapter Cable is a cable set consisting of six separate adapter cables (TCM-001A through TCM-006) that connect directly to the transmission control module (TCM) in Volkswagen vehicles. The set includes connectors for the transmission control modules DQ200, DQ250, DL501, Di382, DQ380/DQ381/DQ500, and VL381, each equipped with a specific plug that fits the TCM connector of the respective transmission. The cables are compatible with TEMIC and BOSCH control modules within the VW platform.

Each cable in the set connects the TCM connector on the transmission via a 16-pin OBD2 plug (J1962) to OBDSTAR diagnostic tools or programmers, enabling direct communication with the transmission control module outside the vehicle network. This method, also called a bench connection or direct TCM link, allows access to the module without the vehicle needing to be powered through the OBD2 port in the cabin. Signal transmission runs through the original pin configuration of the respective TCM housing, allowing data to be read or written directly at the transmission control module level.

✕ The set is specifically developed for Volkswagen transmissions; other brands or platforms are not supported.
✕ The CONTINENTAL control modules are only supported via the TCM-KIT 1 bundle and are not included in the individual cables TCM-001A through TCM-006.

Applications and Features

The adapter cable set supports the following functions at the transmission control module level via direct TCM connection with compatible OBDSTAR equipment.

  • TCM reading: The software and calibration data of the transmission control module are read out via the direct TCM connector to the connected OBDSTAR device.
  • TCM programming: Modified or replacement software data is written back to the TCM, using the pin configuration of the specific transmission connector for error-free transfer.
  • Bench connection DQ200 (0AM/0CW): Via cable TCM-001A, the TEMIC control module of the DQ200 dry clutch DSG is directly connected for reading and writing.
  • Bench connection DQ250 (02E/0D9/CXX): Cable TCM-002A enables direct access to the TEMIC TCM of the DQ250 wet clutch DSG.
  • Bench connection DL501 (0B5): Via cable TCM-003, the TEMIC control unit of the DL501 seven-speed automatic is accessed directly.
  • Bench connection Di382: Cable TCM-004 connects the TEMIC control module of the Di382 transmission to the OBDSTAR device.
  • Bench connection DQ380/DQ381/DQ500 (0DE): Via cable TCM-005, the BOSCH TCM of the larger DSG variants for heavier vehicles is directly connected.
  • Bench connection VL381 (0AW): Cable TCM-006 connects the TEMIC control module of the VL381 automatic to the OBDSTAR programmer.

Compatible Vehicles and Applications

The following transmissions and associated vehicles are supported by the adapter cable set. Compatibility is determined based on the transmission type and the corresponding TCM connector.

Volkswagen:

  • DQ200 (0AM/0CW) — DSG 7-speed dry clutch: Applicable to models with this transmission such as Golf, Polo, A3, and similar platforms
  • DQ250 (02E/0D9/CXX) — DSG 6-speed wet clutch: Applicable to models with this transmission such as Golf GTI, Tiguan, and similar platforms
  • DL501 (0B5) — S tronic 7-speed: Applicable to Audi models with longitudinal drivetrain such as A4, A5, and Q5
  • Di382 — DSG automatic: Applicable to VW models equipped with the Di382 transmission
  • DQ380/DQ381/DQ500 (0DE) — DSG 7-speed wet clutch (high torque): Applicable to models such as Tiguan, Touareg, Transporter, and similar heavier platforms
  • VL381 (0AW) — 8-speed automatic: Applicable to VW models equipped with the VL381 transmission

Good to know: The TCM connector is located directly on the transmission. For bench connection, the transmission must be detached from the vehicle or the connector must be accessible for direct connection.
