The OBDSTAR M004 adapts the universal 3-pin OBD connector found on scooters, mopeds and motorcycles to a 16-pin OBD2 connector (J1962). The 3-pin side connects to the diagnostic port on the two-wheeler; the 16-pin side connects to your OBDSTAR diagnostic device or programmer.

Many European and Japanese two-wheeler manufacturers use the same 3-pin diagnostic connector on the engine management system. The cable translates that pinout to the standard OBD2 format, allowing the device to communicate with the control unit via the available diagnostic bus — such as K-line. The cable is designed for two-wheelers only, not for cars or vans. It unlocks the diagnostic port; which functions become available afterwards depends on your device and the ECU support of the specific vehicle.

KEY BENEFITS

Seven brands on one cable — Aprilia, Ducati, Honda, KTM, Piaggio, Vespa and Yamaha all use this 3-pin connector.
Standard OBD2 on the device side — the two-wheeler port is translated to the format that OBDSTAR equipment recognises.
Both reading and programming — the connection supports diagnostic and programming tasks, as far as your device offers them.
No vehicle modification — the connector plugs directly into the existing diagnostic port.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Two-wheelers with 3-pin port only — not designed for cars or vans, and not for two-wheelers with a different connector type.
Build years are not specified — the source lists only "various models with 3-pin diagnostic connector" per manufacturer; which model years these are depends on your device's support.
For OBDSTAR equipment only — not compatible with diagnostic tools from other manufacturers.
Does not add vehicle coverage — available functions depend on your OBDSTAR device and the model's ECU support.

Applications and functionality

Via the 3-pin port, you access the engine management system of the motorcycle or scooter.

Control units you can reach

  • Engine management system (ECU): The control unit connected to the 3-pin diagnostic port.
  • Other systems: Whether additional modules are accessible varies by manufacturer and model, and depends on your device's coverage.

What you can do

  • Read fault codes: Retrieve error codes from the ECU via the 3-pin connection.
  • Clear fault codes: Remove stored codes from the control unit after diagnosis.
  • Request live data: View real-time sensor data from the engine management system.
  • Perform ECU programming: Run programming tasks, depending on your OBDSTAR model and vehicle support.
  • Note: Available functions vary by manufacturer, model and OBDSTAR device.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The 3-pin diagnostic connector is what matters, not the model. The source confirms the manufacturers listed below via that connection, but does not specify exact build years per model: these depend on OBDSTAR device support.

Aprilia:

  • Various models: With 3-pin diagnostic connector.

Ducati:

  • Various models: With 3-pin diagnostic connector.

Honda:

  • Various motorcycle and scooter models: With 3-pin diagnostic connector.

KTM:

💡
Good to know: The 3-pin diagnostic connector on two-wheelers is typically located beneath the seat, near the handlebars or along the frame; the exact position varies by manufacturer and model. Before ordering, verify that your vehicle is equipped with the 3-pin connector and that your diagnostic device supports the model.
