The OBDSTAR M071 is the adapter cable for the 6-pin diagnostic connector on Tohatsu outboard motors. On the other end is a 16-pin OBD2 (J1962) connector for your OBDSTAR device. At the engine side, the cable connects to the factory diagnostic port of the motor.
Tohatsu uses a proprietary 6-pin connector on these engines instead of a standard port. The housings of both connectors are mechanically keyed, preventing incorrect connection — practical in the confined space of an engine bay. The cable gives the diagnostic software of your connected OBDSTAR device direct access to the engine's electronic systems. Which diagnostic functions you can perform depends on your device and its associated software licence; the cable itself adds no coverage.
KEY BENEFITS
IMPORTANT NOTES
Applications and functionality
Through the 6-pin port you access the engine management system of the outboard motor.
Control units you can reach
- Engine management system: The electronic engine systems of the Tohatsu motor where the 6-pin diagnostic connector is located.
- Other modules: Whether additional units are accessible varies depending on the motor and device.
What you can do
- Read fault codes: Retrieve stored and active diagnostic trouble codes from the engine management system and display them on the device.
- Clear fault codes: Remove stored codes after diagnosis and repair.
- Read live data: Monitor current engine parameters such as engine speed, temperature and sensor readings in real time.
- Establish connection: The cable converts the 6-pin motor port to the OBD2 format that the device expects.
- Please note: The available diagnostic functions depend on the connected OBDSTAR device and its associated software licence.
Compatible vehicles and applications
The determining factor is the 6-pin diagnostic connector, not the engine model. Compatibility is based on application data specified by OBDSTAR for this cable; specific models with model years are not listed.
- Tohatsu: Outboard motors with 6-pin diagnostic connector — consult the OBDSTAR compatibility list for specific motor models and model years.
