The OBDSTAR TCM-023 is an adapter cable that converts a 58-pin TCM connector to a 15-pin DB15 connection, suitable for use with OBDSTAR diagnostic devices and programmers. The cable is specifically developed for the ZF 9HP automatic transmission, a nine-speed transmission licensed by ZF and used by various manufacturers in passenger cars from brands such as Jaguar, Land Rover, Jeep, Fiat, Honda, and Acura. Through this adapter cable, the Transmission Control Module (TCM) can be accessed directly for diagnosis and programming, without involving the vehicle's OBD2 port.
The TCM-023 enables a direct cable connection between the TCM connector of the ZF 9HP transmission and the connected OBDSTAR device. This type of connection, also called bench mode, bypasses the vehicle network and gives the diagnostic system direct access to the transmission control unit. This allows software data to be read and written, even when communication via the vehicle is not possible—for example, with a defective or non-communicating TCM. The 58-pin plug fits the original TCM connector of the ZF 9HP, while the DB15 side connects to the input port of the OBDSTAR device.

Applications and functionalities
The TCM-023 Adapter Cable supports the following functions via a direct bench connection with the ZF 9HP TCM, provided the connected OBDSTAR device supports these functions.
- Reading TCM data: The current software content and configuration data of the transmission control unit are read via the direct 58-pin connection, independent of the vehicle network.
- Writing TCM software: Modified or replacement software is written to the TCM, for example when replacing the control unit or performing a software update.
- TCM identification: Hardware version, software version, and calibration identifiers of the TCM are read for verification before or after a programming action.
- Bench programming: The TCM is accessed and programmed outside the vehicle, allowing access even with a non-communicating or faulty control unit.
