The OBDSTAR TCM-018 is an adapter cable featuring a 14-pin connector on the vehicle side for the GM transmission control module and a 15-pins DB15 connector on the device side. The 14-pin side connects directly to the TCM connector located on the transmission housing itself, and therefore does not connect to the OBD2 port of the vehicle.
The cable is designed for the GM 6T30, 6T35, 6T40, 6T45 and 6T50 transmissions: a series of six-speed automatic transaxles widely used across GM brands and also fitted as an alternative to ZF transmissions in certain BMW models. Because the TCM has its own dedicated 14-pin connection, the OBDSTAR device can communicate directly with the transmission control unit at the transmission level, even when the control module is not accessible via the standard OBD2 diagnostic bus. The cable provides access to the transmission control module only. Reading and clearing fault codes, monitoring live data, programming or performing actuator tests is only possible to the extent that the firmware and licence version of your OBDSTAR device supports. The cable itself does not add vehicle coverage.

Applications and functionality
The TCM-018 connects the transmission control module of a GM 6T30/35/40/45/50 to the DB15 port on your OBDSTAR device.
Control units you can access
- GM 6T transmission control module: The TCM of the 6T30, 6T35, 6T40, 6T45 and 6T50 transaxles, via the 14-pin connector on the transmission housing.
- Transmission side only: Engine management and other vehicle modules are not accessible with this cable.
What you can do
- Read and clear fault codes: Retrieve stored and active diagnostic trouble codes from the TCM and clear them after diagnosis or repair.
- Monitor live data: Track transmission parameters such as gear positions, clutch pressure, temperature and engine speed directly from the TCM.
- Programme the TCM: Write or reprogram the control unit, including adjusting shift characteristics or replacing a TCM.
- Perform actuator tests: Control transmission components such as solenoids to verify mechanical and electrical operation.
- Note: Which functions are available per vehicle depends on the firmware and licence version of your OBDSTAR device; the cable provides the connection only.
Compatible vehicles and applications
Transmission type is the determining factor, not the vehicle model. The vehicles listed below are equipped with a GM 6T30, 6T35, 6T40, 6T45 or 6T50 transmission. On BMW models, this is an alternative transmission alongside the ZF unit, so pre-verification is especially important.
